Despite forecast for 20-30 and 6-9 foot we went yesterday. Its an eerie feeling when you pull out in rain and wind at starting time and there is only two other boats in line.
Each mile we went it got sloppier but the prospect of tuesday (toda being a bust) and not having any look at Friday had us ggiving it a go. As we crossed 40 off it was ugly but not enough to plull the plug and we kept moving forward.
We arrived within a minute of start time right where I wanted to fish. The water was gorgeous but when I flicked on the fishfinder part of the machine I was slapped in the face with pretty cold water...
I turned down the wall and hit some prime places but nothing home. We went deep and to another area and suddenly the weather went away. The sun came out and it got flat in a hurry. We had pilot whales, birds and bait . Aboout 11:00 we had a rat white come and sit behind a bait. It wouldn't budge towards eating though. Pitches did no good. Bouncing and playing with the bait did nothing and eventually the fish sunk off. At least it was a sign. At about 1:00 we had two fish raise on the left. Doosh and I worked em both and both bowed up. Taking line and we thought we were good to go. Then both sticks stood up at the same time just short of relase time.... The antichrishsts had the curse going again...
We slid back to my favorite spot and right as we got there here came another. Bingo... This one stayed glued all the way to unhook time... We hammered the hole hard and I saw a blue one of good size just cruising behind us. Again an emotionless lump of fish with no shot at him.
Getting that white monkey off our back was pretty nice but what made things super special is the group of guys we have aboard this year. I get a load of good people around me but these guys rally stand out as some of the best, nicest, most enjoyable ones I have ever had aboard!
I'm having a ball at this one. Relaxed. Rain, wind, who cares. A few light chores on the boat and by fishing yesterday We can pick two of the next three for a little more leisurely approach...
Lousy signal here... but will try to get reports back up...
