I tell ya what this looks like a blast. I really enjoy catching squids in the canyons on overnight trips but this really looks like a blast. Look at the size of this thing.

Crab mustard is good
Humbolts are alot of fun...
and decent eating if processed immediately. We have had them up in Washington the last few years, as far north as Vancouver Island. Can weigh up to 90 lbs, but usually are about 40lbs.
Be prepared to get wet cuz they blow alot of water!

Hide- My Wifes Logged On
I caught one trolling a coyote spoon for salmon out of Tahsis, Vancouver Island several years ago' Squirted my buddy who was trying to net it like it was a fire hose!!

Skinned it and threw it against a rock several times to tenderize it at the suggestion/instruction of an Italian chef who happened to be fishing on the next boat on the dock cause we sure didn't know how to handle it.
Deep fried in a batter. Very good and actually tender

I out in san deigo about this time last year ,and fished for them .Cool trip we started jigging them up in 1200' of water as more people hooked up ,came up to about 50' below the boat .I caught 8 or 9 in the 30 to 40 lb range .Not great fighters but always cool to catch some thing differnt .Didn't have a way to cookthem so I gave them to the crew

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
Fished them many times up in California and down in Cabo. Delicious eating, with many of the restaurant ones in the U.S. coming from Mexican waters. Not spectacular, but strong pulling fighters that'll bite off a finger if you aren't careful and will hit you with powerful streams of both water and nasty ink. Many who catch them fail to realize that they make for great bait for many species of fish. Cut, tapered strips from them were among my favorite baits for swordfish, sharks and big, west coast halibut, along with other species. These baits pictured, illustrated, and photographed in several of my books.
Really unique critters!

The meat is excellent, I've had it as a steak. Season it with sea salt and cracked pepper olive oil. quickly sear it on a hot grilll and brush it with fresh lime juice and Garlic as it cooks. But they were careful to not cook it to much as that stuff will get tough quick.
Thats on the bucket list to at least try once.
