OI Tuna Report 2/27/07

Took one of our good OC charter clients and his guest to OI yesterday and fished witg Greg Mayer on the Fishing Frenzy, it was myself and Jeff Reibel from the Phideaux. Had an early single bite on the 400 and caught a 140 lb bluefin and then sat most of the day on the 480-485 and pounded out a limit of 15 yellowfins. Mostly small with a few 35lbers thrown in. Water went between 69 and 73.6. Had a few doubles and caught a tripple at the end. Only boat to fish out of OI or PC from what we saw. Didnt take any pics as we were a bit busy. Today looks good also, hope some more boats went.

I hardly know what to make of that size BFT and location. It is obviously a juvenile, I guess feeding down on the Labrador. I have an old map that has a mark on it about 30 miles n-ne of the inlet that says April-Bluefin. I always wondered about that mark.

I also know of several caught on the far side of the stream in Late May & June. But they were all monsters. Thats something I wouldn't mind giving a shot on the right forecast.
