Boat: Reel Fancy
Crew for Fri 5-25: Becky,Mark,Joey,Tony,Warren,John & Me.
Fished the 610 up & out to the NE along the stream change. The stream was starting to fall out (current) through the day. The grass lines/rips were starting to see signs from all the recent pressure since most all the boats have been focusing their efforts for Dolphin for the past couple of weeks. Fishing was OK but not what it had been with all the pressure. The cooler water inside was starting to show really promising conditions for Tuna @ the 610 or so. Very little current w/ great blended clear water & bait. We spent the remainder of the afternoon looking for Tuna in the 74 degree water just inside the change & saw the marks but didn't raise any. They were all from 22 fat to about 30 but very nice.
We tried the shovel a bit & also tried the drop down speed up over marks but no takers.
With The conditions developing & tons of Tuna marks on the screen we pulled lines with high hopes for tomorrow.![]()
We scraped out a bakers dozen of gaffers in the am & had a pretty day on the water.
Day 1 Dock Shot
Crew for Sat 5-26: Tony,Russ,Becky,Joey,Bob,Brian & me.
Fished the 630-675 in the blend most of the day except in the am where we spent the first couple hrs along the same change as yesterday looking for a few Dolphin before hunting Tuna . We couldn't buy a Dolphin, They were so pounded that all the ones left along the line were pickers for us with none staying tight. We did however manage 2 Boscos with both hitting right @ the transom. The first was a real hoss.He clobbered the left flat as we passed along the hot side of the change. I had just come down from the bridge to take a leak when it hit so since I don't get to crank much I figured, this was a good time. Not... I still had my slicks on from the run out & had no clue of the fight this stubborn blue water Yellow belly had in store for me. Whew, next time I'll take off my slicks before I try to crank in a bosco with one of those Play action belts.

The next was one fine hen house operation. First came another left flat but it didn't stay tight but then the short followed. All went well with Bob up to bat till the fun began. Right @ gaff he decided to go crazy & managed to shoot under the boat. Well the fish was still there but wasn't gonna ever see the deck without a volunteer going overboard. He was around the port rudder just a paddeling away.
First went Joey, then Tony, man what a mess but dammit it was a nice fish & we at the time didn't know how many more fish awaited us on the cold side so we wanted his ass in the boat. Well as the pic shows We were dam proud when he hit the deck. Thats one I won't forget any time soon.

As for the rest of the day, we went on inside & fished the 675 in 68.5 degree perfect currentless blend full of marks from 20 & up. Wham, wham & wham. Boxes loaded & ice all gone. It was just what the doctor ordered. All Boscos, just sweet conditions right now. Get out there. World class Dolphin & Tuna @ the same time. Man OI never ceases to amaze me even on a calm Memorial weekend with 50 million boats.
Russ's standard ham shot
Catch of Bosco's
Crew for sun 5-27: John,Howard,Burt,Ed,Jim,Scott & Me.
The water was pretty much the same as where we fished the day before except it had moved a bit north overnight. We started on the 700 in 100 to 300 fat. 15 min in the left flat (again) bounced the rod but didn't pop the clip. Howard jigged it & off he went. Big Eye on.John fought this fish with all he had for about an hour & 15 min but by mistake we had put the wrong rod in the flats that morning. Usually we always run 130 floro on everything close & 80 for the rest. All our bites this week have been up close. We messed up good!! This fish was tough & he even made things worse by pulling us into the stream which was pretty rough this morning. With much effort from the crew (great job guys) the fish settled in for the final moment but just before the steel sank home he made one last turn & used
his body weight against the light leader & it chaffed on the gill plate. Off swam a really nice Eyeball. Not one of the managable buck 20-40 sized ones, this was a really nice fish. Bummer![]()
Well after that we managed to have a bad luck day, The fish were still thick from the 690 all the way to where the water started to get cloudy @ the 740 or so from 100-500 fat.
Just a ton of scattered fish. Lots of boats got um but today was not our day. We had about 10 bites & one way or another we only boxed 3 & a gaffer. After the previous days catch nobody bothered to take a dock shot. The 3 we got were however the big boys again so the day 3 new faces still managed all the meat they needed. All in all another great day but just wished we had remembered to put the right rods on the flats in the morning. Man that was a beautifull fish.
I got word today that the fish were even thicker today & that also more Eyes showed up along with another big wave of Gaffers. OI is just plain bad ass. Sure am greatfull to get to fish it.
Thanks Joey for bringing your boat to accomodate the extra crew so everyone could get out and fish on a great weekend!!! It was much appreciated!
It was nice working with all the buddy boats out there! See you guys next weekend.
