Boat:Reel Fancy
Crew: Rich,Rick,Doug,Mike Brian Beck, & me.
Fished the same area again thats been consistantly holding good water conditions for the last 3 weeks. 660-700 in 70 -250 fat. Today the water was starting to get cloudy & the temps were cooler just inside. Lots of mixed areas with slight temp changes & eel grass.
The changing conditions & Sat boat pressure made things a bit tougher than what it had been for the boats that fished earlier in the week.
We had our best luck @ the 677 in about 70-120 fat around tightly formed bait balls. These balls were surrounded by Kings & Tuna who were hell bent on keeping the balls up top. It made for easy location but also made it tough to fish with the boats trying 2 different methods to scrap out a catch. Most of the boats were stopped on them pitching spinning gear. Many were hooked up but took time getting them in. The rest incl. ourselves waited for turns to pass close enough to run a tight spread past the balls. As you can imagine it was tough to get the perfect pass with all the stopped boats. I think we only managed to make about 3-4 total with most attempts failing because of the shear # of people in the area.
There were some bites just offshore of that mess in & around some slicks but no love for us today.
If we had been better set up for casting, that would of made way more sense. Next time I will be ready.$$$$$![]()
Anyways, we managed to go through 5.5 packs of bait with all the King bites + 5 or 6 prime 130 flouro rigs ect.Lots of damage from the kings + 1 idiot who cut me off even after being warned. He must of been in full Tuna fever mode. running & gunning an outboard to get in a cast.
Managed to hold 9 Tuna with 6 in the box. 1 got cut off by a king who aired on the flat & landed on the tight Tuna leader, 1 needed to grow up so he went back in the water and the other was a Kinged up leader failure about 5" from steel.
We had a great crew of new faces. It was nice meeting you guys.
Here's a shot of one of the Baitballs... Unfortunately, we didn't get any showing the tuna's busting the through it.
King's going straight in the box
Blue checkerboard 12' mauler Squidnation bar leaving the water. (Too many kings wreaking havok on our rigs)
Rick Losing steam
Rich offering moral support
Crew praying we will land this BIG EYE.
