OI 6-5-2010 Monster Mahi, Tunas, and Blue Marlin Everywhere

The SFT crew had another good showing out of OI..After contemplating whether we should wait for better weather we decided to just take our chance and go Despite the 20knot SW winds & 4' less than 5 second apart waves. We ran the 26' towards the 1250 and enjoyed a soaking wet beating for nearly 3 hours to get to the fishing grounds, having us all questioning why we even went. Conditions on scene were not too bad though, pretty nice looking water- 76 degrees, some scattered grass.. We put em out in around 110 fathoms... worked south.. hit a few gaffers right off the bat. Had pretty steady action with a few missed and short bites.. we saw the little bailers jumping around in the spread each time. 2 hours into it we get 3 bites- one stays tight- its a good one that ended up being a nice 45# class YFT-. Water conditions continued to improve and there were definitely quite a few Blue Marlin around. Gotta be the most I have seen in one day.... Our boat witnessed personally 3 times a boat hook up right next to us, within 100 yards.... We raised one that charged in to our spread but it disappeared quickly and went and jumped on somebody Else's hook... Im telling you on the radio it seemed like every 5 minutes somebody was hollering "Hooked up Blue Marlin" - we saw boats driving around in circles backwards for half the day. It was definitely primed up out there for the Blue Ones.. And there were some nice bigeyes being caught. Know a few 200#s hit the docks and heard em talking about a few lost ones too. Our glorious moment for the day was when our chrome head Black skirted hooed up Ilander chasing a bird riding shotgun back to china got air mailed by a MONSTER Mahi.. It was an awesome bite to see for sure. Had our new amigo "Sloop" on board and his number was up.. and it was his first offshore fish ever. The fish put up an excellent fight and gave us a series of pretty awesome aerial shows. We managed a good gaff shot in the shovel head and put it in the boat. on the scale he was teetering between 51-53# - What an awesome looking fish in and just out of the the water... He was a beast! Made the ride out well worth it.. and the ride home was a breeze... 30 the whole way... Glad we decided to go... You just never know until you do..
Here is a little footage of the battle....
