Thumbs up OI 10/4/08- Tuna are snapping

Fished saturday in with a mess of boats from the 560-620. Started off on fire with a blackfin bite before the whole spread was out. Had 6 in the box before 830. Ended up with 11 Blackfins with one going 32lbs for an NC citation, 1 yellowfin, a 25#wahoo, and 15 tiles with 3 citations to round it out. Missed one screamer bite that I think was a bill when he ran the line into the wwb bird bar and broke off. Beautiful day on the water, sunny, calm, and bites for most of the day.

Yeah they are still biting. We got home early today a great mix of yellowfins and blackfins. We released a ton of small black fins but sorted out and got some of the nicer class of fish. I know there are plenty of boats at oregon inlet fishing center just waiting for some one to book them. It is a great fall bite. Great weather, and great fishing.

They were fishing the tides. I talked to a few of the guys up there after we left wanchese. You had to go past the main span and go to the sixth one to the south. That was a week ago. That is what I was told?

They dredged the main span Sunday so it should be good to go. We leave the inlet before sunrise and getting under the bridge at the 7th span was interesting to say the least. By Saturday afternoon we went under the first span south of the main span and drafted 4.9ft at the shallowest point. All should be good now.
Good catch, we ended up with 3 yfts one right at 70lbs and three Blackfin. Marked tons of fish deep all day.We fished around the 510....Mark

Citation

A citation is a certificate with your name, date and the type and size of fish caught. You get one for any billfish, meatfish have certain sizes. It is a really cool program. My wife got a citation for a white marlin last year and a 48" barracuda this year. I took some friends out and they got citations for #35 dolphins. It was the first palegic fish they ever caught. They don't have the program in MD or Jersey either.

Well as you know the inlet changes every day, so if you come through in November it will not be the same as it is today so check back. After the blow was the worst. The main spain had 4ft. of water and we were going to the 6th span to the south. That was pretty scary in a boat out size. There was only about a rod length on each side of you. A few days after that we were and still are going out the span just south of the main span, but when you go out do not line up with the red can. Turn hard south until you get to that 6th span or so then make your way out. One boat did hit bottom at the end of the crack yesterday, don't know how bad it was, but he took his people back and did not go fishing. Oh the joys of fishing oregon inlet. The fishing is good, but you have to work to get to them.
