I ran a few days on a private boat last week. The first two were kinda rough literally and figuratively. We did snag a wahoo and a limit of ajs both days as well as some snowy grouper but overall it was just too rough to do what we needed to do. Sunday was a different story though. Mike, Luis and I headed deep in his 30 foot grady. Pulled up to our rig of choice and tried to make bait with no luck. While we were setting up our chunk drift I saw some skippies popping so I chunked a frenzy popper at them and hooked up to a 30 pound yf on the first cast. Put him in the boat and saw some more fish popping. We doubled up our 2nd attempt at it and got one and lost one. We were throwing frenzy poppers on tuna snipers to get on these fish and let me tell you it was a blast to get back to my real life.
We continued to throw poppers at the tuna catching some and missing some till we had 7 yf in the box. We werent seeing much then so Mike dropped a jig and nailed another yf on his first drop. pulled back up the rig and started jigging again. Got another hookup and thought it was a yf till we saw the tiger stripes and I stuck the wahoo milliseconds before it bit through the assisst hook. We tried a few chunk drifts to no avail so we headed back towards shallow water with 8 yf and a wahoo in the box. Tried some grouper jiggging with only a nice aj to show for it before we called it a day.
On some other news. The bp work for me is over. I got cut last week and am looking forward to getting back to fishing. I should be picking up my new boat to me at least tomm and pulling it down to venice to break in the engines.
