Hey Guys...just got home and showered and figured i would share my report from our overnighter. Despite iffy seas and waiting for the wind to die down, we left GEI around 630pm and headed to the 100 line between the spencer and Wilmington. Found the break about a mile past the 100 line, water rose up to around 71.1 so we started fishing. Almost no squid or any bait around....So windy i could only fish 3 lines, and one sword rig set around 150 feet. About 20 minutes into fishing, i dropped the sword rig down another 100 feet, and two minutes later she went tapping. Circle hook set perfect and the fight lasted about 20 minutes. Sunk the gaff into a 54 inch sword, around 90lb conservatively. Not a monster, but its the first sword i caught this year so i was psyched. The chunk was slow until i broke out the flat of sardines. Dropped one down 50 feet and boom, hooked up. We got covered up on yellowfin, but the entire boat was sick and it was me alone in the cockpit reeling in fish. I managed 3 for 4 on a quick flurry of 30-40 lb yellowfin, and then the bite shut off. If i had the anglers, and more rods able to be fished, i am sure we could have put a larger number of tuna in the box, they were there, and hungry. We were all alone all night long, and drifted into 72-73 degree water, with hardly any squid. Hearing chatter sounded like most of the fleet was in the Wilmington and sitting in cold 64-68 water. All in all it was a good trip. The troll seems to have shut off, we had two small dolphin on the morning troll and headed in . Fall canyon time guys, go get them!
