Offshore Report. . . 10/19 OC

Sorry for the very late report.

Fished last wed. Left the dock @330 and had lines in at just before 6. Beautiful ride out with a full moon lighting the way. Started chunking the wash lumps with a few other boats for company. Had a great drift, but the water temps were less than ideal at 65deg. Drifted the E edge of the big lump all morning with nothing to show for it but a dolphin. Went to move and had nothing. . .batteries were dead. Turns out we left the running lights on all morning and thats what prob killed the batteries. Got in touch with CG and they had boat us on the way. ETA 2pm. Continued to fish still with nothing to show by noon. At 1pm the bite turned on. Fish were 80ft down. once we found the fish, it was easy to hook up. Got the first fish to the boat and in the box. 80lb bluefin. Fought another one to the boat shortly after and played around with the fish, getting some good photo ops as we could not keep this one. healthy release. lost a few more until we ran out of chunks. went through 3 flats by 2pm. Right on time, the tow boat showed up around 230. WE were hooked up by 3 and set for the long ride home. 4+ hours to the inlet and we were not home until 9ish. Long day, but a few nice fish made up for it.

here are a few pics from the day.

yea, I have it, but the boat i was on did not. Luckily. . .mine still covered us.

Boat US unlimited towing insurance. the best $99 you will ever spend!!!!

that tow would have cost $1500. and that is the rate from 3 years ago. Boat US has still not updated to accomodate the new fuel increases. The are supposed to do that sometime this month. With the increase, the tow would have been well over 2K. So, I say again. the best $99 you can ever spend!

yea, we had a battery booster on board. . . but it didnt have enough juice to get the boat started. it was one of those days when the mains and the backups failed. . .go figure.

at least it wasn't raining and you had crappy seas. This spring I had to be towed 23 miles so I can imagine how fun your tow was

Shark, i am surprised that tow boat us just didn't give you a battery or a jump. it would have been easier on both if you could have run in and them not tow you. we were towed earlier this year on a buddies boat and the first thing they did was give us fresh batteries to see if it helped.
BTW, nice fish and pics too.
