Well, I debated even posting this report...but you have to post the good with the bad. Long story short, we sucked. Started north of the tip in about 70 fa with lines in by 7. Trolled all day with just a small mahi in the box. The only real excitement of the day was we had a white come up on the flats and ended up hooking him off the short riggger but jumped him off on first jump (still sucked). Stopped on the bone on the ride in looking for a bft and again, nada...It was just one of those days, we were in the right area, spread looked great, but the fish didnt cooperate. The good news was it was a beautiful day out there and got some spectacular sunset pics from sunset marina after fueling up. Will post them shortly.
Pretty much the same for me John. Left around 5:30 headed to the baltimore, but something told me to start a little south so I headed between the Balt and Poormans. The last satellite shot I saw showed bait from Poormans to the Washington. Not too much in the Baltimore. Ran over a bunch of two tones at about 40 Fathoms inside of the Poormans, but decided to keep going east to the 100 fathom line. Wrong decision. Never chase internet or radio fish but that's what I did. Never ignore a good sign just because you think it's better somewhere else. Didn't catch anything until I headed back to Poormans and finally boated a small YFT. Had a few more break off and that was it. Tried the Jackspot on the way home but nothing again. $700 of diesel for a 20lb fish. That's $35 per pound.
Sorry to hear that, guys. We were just to the north of the Baltimore in 500 fa. & went 2-4 on whites, & had 3 nice mahi. Biggest around 25lbs. Lots of life & BIG weedlines where we were.
Similar story for us at the Baltimore. Lines in just short of the tip around 8 in 40 fathoms 75F water. Lots of bait. Got a skippy right away and worked our way out to the deep. Trolled around concentrating on 70 fathoms with only one slinger Mahi to show for it. Came back in to the Hambone and worked a couple hours for a BFT with nothing to show. Nice ride in but the fish were a no show.
We started in 70 fathoms of the Baltimore lines in at 7:45. around 8:30 oclock we had a very nice bite on the long rigger. After a 25 minute fight we pulled the hook on a very nice YF just before we could grap the leader. In the afternoon we hooked and release a nice White marlin. That was it. The water was pretty and we had a te,perature of 76 degrees.
I was also one of the unfortunate ones in the Baltimore yesterday and probably passed all of you except the guy in the deep. We had 3 fish up at 8, 3 misses and no other strikes all day. Saw the 2 tones, some grey whales (real name escapes me) saw some broken weeds, some bait, the floating barge with no anchor out....how did that thing sit there like that baffles me unless wrapped in the lobster gear....went inside to the jack spot and trolled for an hour, no love at all. Beautiful day but no fish. Heard Reel Chaos found em in 700 fthms poormans and i actually was originally headed to the 000's but something pulled me north. Bad decision! Get em next time i guess.
well, misery def loves company Thanks for the replys, maybe I can pull my head halfway out of the sand. Planning on getting back out there on Sunday. This is the pic I was talking about. It was a beautiful evening back at Sunset.
