Started south of the tip of the Balt in 45 fa around 0815. Trolled up the 100 line without much action. Headed down the west wall and spotted a group of floating ballons a little around 1000. Trolled toward them. As the bow of the boat drew close, a blue aired out about 20 yards from the boat, then two were in the spread. Hooked one and the fight was on - on a 12" squid spreader bar! After about 1.5 hours we got the release at 1134. Called Joe on the Muff Diver and the Marli who thought we may have just released the first blue in OC. Guess I didn't hear about the Lucky Lady who apparently also released one just prior.
We kept on trolling with no love adn eventually ran inside to try for a bluefin. One bite, but didn't stay tight. Oh well, great day!
Conrats on the Blue! We were in the same area when you released. We went 3 for 4 on YFTs and saw a small white free jumping. Pretty day to be out there for sure.
We just need to figure out how to train the blue ones to hit the lure intended for them! Bart was swimming on the short shotgun (off our hill-billy center rigger) on the 80....of course the two blue ones ignored that bait!
