Headed out Sunday with John Rogers and Shawn (rugby buddy) with a plan to fish, so we fished the plan. We hit the Jackspot first thing in the morning hoping to pick up a BFT and then head out deep. We set up, started trolling and were greeted by a quick knock down by a king mackeral on a planer/spoon. Hello Mr. King welcome to the fishbox. We continue to work the east edge of the Spot and John adds a small bft(sea witch/hoo) to the box to keep the king mackeral company. Part one of the plan complete, now we pick up and head deep toward the Poorman's canyon to look for yellowfin or possibly a white.
We stop inside of the canyon near the 40 line and put out the spread. We trolled east for a while but never see anything. So we pick up and head to the Poorman's. There are a few boats working the area so we begin trolling searching for yellowfin. We are running a spread of Adrenaline Lures spreader bars and hoo/seawitches. Two things I'd like to add here. First I gave John (SharkJP) a call on Saturday to get a couple of spreader bars. Not only did he put them together, he delivered them to me. Thanks John! Great looking bars! Secondly, John brought down some hoos from Baitmasters. I've read about these on the board before. They really are top quality. Anyway back to the Canyon...
We worked the area pretty good going as far as 1000ft. deep. We come up to about 450ft and a white comes up on ....you guessed it the Adrenaline Lures spreader bar. I pick the rod up but he's already gone. Damn! As this is happening John is dropping back a hoo/seawitch. So Mr. Whitey goes over to the rod that John has in his hand and literally takes the bait as he is letting it out. I didn't see the bill but I saw from the side as he turn and took the hoo. John kept dropping it back allowing him to take it but the line never comes tight when he pulls up on him. As this point we are all jumping out of our skin! First billfish raised on my boat on a spreader bar that SharkJP put together for me! Wish we could hooked him up, but still very exciting.
After some more trolling we decide to head back in. Still searching for some yellowfin, I stop at the 30 line outside of the Hotdog and pick up a Mahi after about 3 minutes! That would be the end of our day and we head back to the barn.
John Rogers worked the pit well and put out a great spread. We picked up a nice variety of fish and I had a great day with a couple of awesome guys! I wish we would have got that white, but I will never forget this day. First trip to the canyon in my boat, first white raised as well! Man I love this stuff!

P.S. Check out Adrenaline Lures, John is a hell of a guy who puts together some great rigs. His stuff is definitley working for me.
Will, Thanks for taking me out, had an excellent time with you and shawn. That white had my heart racing as I felt him take it right out of my hand. What a feeling, just next time I hope I stick the white next time. Man what an awesome day out there. Can't wait to get back out there and do it again.
sharkjp, you have some sweet bars for sure. If I was a fish I would be all over it .
