OCMD - 7/30/06

It sure was nice to get back out offshore again yesterday. Work commitments have prevented me from fishing since Memorial Day. WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY to long between trips but I managed to head out with John Rogers, Joe and Casey on Sunday. Not much to report really. Nice day out there. Set up and started chunking at the sausages (middle lump) anchored up no pulls so we picked up the hook and drifted for a bit...still no pulls. Moved out to the Hot dog where we trolled for a while ... picked up a dolphin. Not much chatter on the radio seems like some guys were picking up 1 tuna maybe...but seemed slow. On our way back in we picked 2 more dolphin on the 20 fathom line. Probably should have saved some gas and fished the fingers all day Great group to fish with John of course throwing nothing but good stuff at the fish - just no takers. One thing is for sure my soul needed a little bluewater time and it was nice to get out there.

We fished the same areas and except for two huge bluefish we did'nt get a single hit. Started at the sausages and then moved to the dog. We tried everything while chuinking but only caught the blues. Then we moved inshore around the twin wrecks but could'nt get any strikes there either. It was a nice day out on the water but I was hoping for my buddy Bills first tuna. Maybe next time. He did wiegh in a 15lb bluefish though so I think he was happy with that.

Thanks for taking me out will. Had a good time as always. From what I heard the bite was done by 7:00 guess all those boats pushed the fish down. Will gettem next time.

Yep they were deep! Unfortunately, we didn't have a diamond jig to try to get to them. Deep baits went untouched. We set up on the eastern edge of the middle lump of the Sausages. We saw them but no takers. Good luck next week. Probably try again this weekend if the weather is ok.
