We had a great day on the "2FAR OUT!" Saturday fishing at the Great Eastern in the inshore division of the Small Boat Tournament. Forgot about the OC Shark Tournament and hit the sea bouy at 6 A.M. Well my 23' Sea OX had to battle throught boat wakes from all the shark tournament boats for the first ten miles. I'll have to remember that next year!! Sharon and I had our good friends Mark and Pam Hess on board. Mark owns a deer cutting bussiness in Millsboro and also runs the Preditor out of Indian River.
We started fishing the cable piles on the great eastern and the conditions were perfect. Less than .5 mile per hour drift. The bite was red hot! Within 2 hours we had Two nice Tog, a 22 inch flounder and a few keeper sea bass. We probably caught 50 sea bass to get 4 keepers. Most were just under the 12.5 inch mark. The bite shut down for some reason at about 10. We moved over and anchored on a wreck and only managed to catch a few small seabass and a huge eel.
Well it started thundering and the girls wanted to get closer to shore so we headed to Russels to finish the day. Stopped by the third lump to try to catch a bluefish but found no love there. We did get two more nice tog at Russels before the storm hit. Got a free boat washing on the way in!!!!!
We ended up placing in the Flounder, Sea Bass and Tog calcuttas. So it was a good tournment for us. Its a fun tournament that can be fished by anybody in any size boat.
Oh yea!! Congrats to Will Kennington for his 6.8 pound flounder!!!! Will is 8 years old and is one heck of a fisherman already so watch out for his name in the next few years!!
