We found those fish at the Rockpile thursday. We went 1 for 3 on whitey and caught a sailfish.

We also found a pod of whites balling baits that wouldn't come off the baitballs. There were at least a dozen fish (maybe more) on the ball. We worked them for a good 1/2 hour and even tried casting to them from the bow , no luck.
Saw several other cutters under birds.

We caught the sail 1st thing in the am inshore of the #s in 40f
and found the whites just outside of the lobster gear in 100f between 875 and 885.

    we also boxed 28 mahi.

[QUOTE=WhiteySlayer;1640185]released a shortbill spearfish which was the first one I've personally ever seen. /QUOTE]

Technically speaking its a long bill
The long billed (Atlantic) spearfish ( TETRAPTURUS PFLEUGER)

is known to occur in the northwest Atlantic from New Jersey to Venezuela, including the Gulf of Mexico.

Only reason I mention is we caught one this summer and someone corrected me on the species. It is also illegal to harvest one.
