    OC Saturday

    Sorry for the late report.

Went out Saturday, left late about 6:45, didn't feel like running in the dark. Headed to the Sausages. Flat calm, absolutely beautiful. Ran over a pretty drastic temp break about 8-10 miles short of the destination, but decided to continue with the original plan.
Arrived to 1 boat working 1 of the 5 scallop boats there, no one else there. Started trolling, got all the lines out but one and WHAM, two lines go down and two nice sized mahi in the box. One gaffer and one about 20lbs. One on the natural tan colored squid spreader bar with red and white seawitch behind it (short rigger), the other on a blue and white islander (long rigger) both had medium bally on them. Got the lines reset and went over the same spot. Wham, but doesn't come tight. Continued this big loop for a while and hooked up on some nice yellowfin. Caught on the same spreader bar seawitch combo (hottest lure of the day), on the green and white cedar plug on the flat line, on the rainbow squid spreader bar from Canyon Runner (other short rigger), had a short bite on the bird greenmachine (long line). We had the spreader bars go down a few times without hooking up, the tuna were really tearing up the squid teasers w/o hooks. The most exciting event was when a nice tuna came in hot on the flat line with the small blue and white islander with bally, big boil and line went down, didn't come tight, I dropped it back and watched the tuna follow in and then all of the sudden break off and go for the cedar plug on the other flat and just maul it. I was right there to react. Love that. At about noon, we decided to give chunkin a try to try for our one big bluefin. Set up and chunked until about 2:30. Had one pull on the diamond jig 5 reels off the bottom, no dice, and one large mako came up about 5 feet from the transom. Went back to the troll until about 4 while heading into the fingers. Nothing for the rest of the day. Had a nice ride in, still flat calm.

While we were chunking, we had 2 different boats come up and just do circles around us within 75 - 100 yards trolling. We were all alone, the scallopers were about 1 mile away at this point and had a few guys around them. But these boats, both about 25 ft, just circled around us trying to get a bite out of our slick. They each made about 4 circles. Come on, do your own work. Sorry, just my one rant.
