Sit down Shut up And fish
OC Report Sat 7/7
Headed south out of OC late. Stopped on the 30 line and put the spread out. While we were setting the riggers, one fish hit a spreader bar but didn't hold on, then the long spreader got nailed and we had a 40 lb yft in the box.
circled back on that spot a few time and headed east. had another multiple knockdown, but only one came tight. Got him to the boat in short order and the day was off to a good start.
Continued east and got a triple knock down. One fish popped off, one fish bit off and the other stayed tight. This was a better fish. Dad got on the rod and we had the fish to the boat in fairly short order. Sunk the gaff and added a nice 60 lber to the box.
Things went dead for a while until we found a nice rip/tide line. Trolled by a small log and nailed two more yft...both in the box. We finally got our double header to stay tight.
While working back over rip and I saw a wake behind a spreader bar....it was whitey. He switched to a short rigger. We dropped back to him he slashed it, but didn't eat. Came back over him and he came sniffing again, but just wasn't hungry enough. He would swim with his bill out of the water, but his dorsal wasn't raised, so I guess our spread was just too boring for him.
No more excitement the rest of the day, so we headed in a little early. Fish all hit on the usual stuff...spreader bars, islanders & hoo. Lots of boats, but it was a good day.
