Left OC Inlet @ 5AM and figured we'd try for a Bluefin at the Hambone for the 1st hr. With no luck and the calm seas and good weather we decided to head for the Wilm in search of the YF. Had Larry (Hroonk), his Dad, Larry Sr, my brother, Doug, Gary Hall and Joey Lasorda with us. Had all 80's on board and one 50 as the original plan was to hunt for Bluefin. @11:30 a few miles South of the tip on the West wall, big blue hits the left flat (which is the 50 of course) with Larry's custom tied pink/mylar witch on 130lb leader. Larry Sr. jumps on the rod and does a great job going toe to toe with his 1st Billfish, let alone a blue one. The fight lasted @ an hour with Larry Jr. releasing the Blue for his Dad. We estimated the fish between 350 and 400lbs. She gave us a great show and it was great to see the father/son teamwork her to the boat for the release.
