This is the first time I've had net access since the trip. Quick and dirty report:
Was able to convince the normal crew to take a personal day and fish Thursday since the weekend looked to be a blow out (Didn't take much convincing after the catch on Sunday.) We headed out to the 000s with the goal of stirctly billfishing and finally putting the first one on the boat (we 90% meat fish).
Had lines in the water around 0730. By 0800 we had a double header whites. Jumped one off and released the other on a crystal/pink seawitch - mission accomplished by 0815. Continued to work the area a while longer and hooked up again on a purple/black black bart. Got this one to the boat for pics and a release.
They were really hungry early and almost hooked themselves. As the morning progressed, our ratio dropped as they seemed to hit and be gone before you could even get to the rod. Later in the day, we found some bait balls and lots of cutting marlin. Worked the area for a while and started getting bites. Hooked one, broke it off, then hooked another shortly after on a green/white seawitch. Got that to the boat for our 3rd release. We were quickly running out of time and had to leave them biting. Wish we could have stayed just an hour more to get my buddy his first white also, but still a great day. Cruised home with flat seas, and cold drinks at 33 knots.
Nice work and great pics! Glad you got a crew together. It would have been a hard day to miss. I had my lines in the water around 0830 just inside the 30 line heading int to Poormans. I worked the 30 to 40 & the 40 to 50 line going into Poormans found 75 degree h2o. Worked my Black Barts all over to South Poormans via Rock Pile or vise versa. I was hoping to be jumping in with my first white. We left Poormans dry! We saw the bird action as well and worked it for a few but nothing ended up on our lines. I ran up at the hot dog to go after some meat and hopefully a catch. Sometimes you beat the fish and sometimes the fish beats you. Keep in touch!
