    Oc fishing

Looking to get offshore out of ocean city for tuna and need some help with tackle. Biggest question is what reels should I go with. I'm thinkin of going with 4 50w to run long riggers and wb rods and grab 4 30w for short rigger and flat lines. Does this sound right? Also, want to run straight mono, keepin it simple for now.

Are you thinking of buying all these reels or do you already have them? If you are buying them I would get 4 TLD 30s and if you really want 50s get 2 tld 50s for longs. There isnt much out there you cant handle with 30s and 25s.

As far as rigs go, just make a double line in your mono to a spro barrel wind-on. Even kroks (sp?) work too. Then crimp 25-30' of 80-100 lb mono to your hook. I would get a handful of Squidnation Mini-Hs or seawitches or illand trackers. Larn to rig a ballyhoo and run a spread of them. You can actually wind the leader onto the reel and this is the easiest way to do it.

KISS method. This is a very basic overview. If you want more details just let the board know what you are trying to figure out.

Also might want to get a spreader bar, which is nice to have on a 50 depending on the size of it.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have any offshore gear, and I was looking at buying tiagras. I know that 30's will pretty much cover everything, but I wanted the 50's to run bars, especially with all the bigeyes showing up this year. Just want to cover all basics, don't want to buy anything too small or too big and regret it down the road.

Honestly, I would go with TLDs over the Tiagras. Half the price, lighter, and imho a better reel.

Get the TLDs... 4 30's and 4 50's would be perfect in most circumstances...

Gotcha. I thought about the tlds especially since I will be fishing off a center console. The reason I was going to do the tiagras was because I figured they would last a lifetime. I guess the tlds will last just as long?

Go with Tiagras no comparision-if you want a TLD you can have mine hate it!!! Too light for LARGER FISH. You will pay more but if your going to do this long enough they are well worth it. Penn Internationals are great reels too. You get what you pay for.

I have both and if you are just getting into offshore fishing start with the TLD's if you want to dump them in a year or 2 and buy tiagras there is a pretty good internet market for them and you won't lose out too bad. I acutally pull my spreader bars on the tld 50's instead of my international 50's. Haveing 2 speed is nice too.
