Sit down Shut up And fish
Oahu Fishing?
i'm looking to do some fishing while on oahu next week and was wondering if anyone could recommend a boat.
i'm not all that concerned about targeting marlin, i think the group would rather see plenty of bites or fish than hope for just one bite.
thanks!

Just bought a 65' hat!
Take Your pick
norter79 - Unlike the Big Island, where charter fishing is predominantly along the Kona coast and Honokohau Harbor is basically the only charter boat port, Oahu has charter fishing boats homeported along several coasts.
Oahu is much smaller than the Big Island, so you can relatively easily drive to any of the ports, but you may want to consider a boat from a port near to your hotel. If you're staying in Waikiki, the nearest charter boats are homeported at Kewalo Basin, where in fact most of the charter boats are tied up. Here's a link to just one boat there:

There are many others and some might recommend one or the other but the one in the link above seems to catch fish most regularly; see for yourself.
If you're staying on the north shore, then here's a link to a boat in Haleiwa Harbor:

Again there are other boats there and others might recommend a different boat, but the boat in the link catches a lot of fish as the link shows.
I'm not affiliated in any way with any charter boat, just trying to help answer your question. It's your money, so it's your choice but you can't go wrong looking at the above links, at least for starters.
One BIG caution: Thoroughly discuss and understand the boat's policy on sharing fish with you or releasing fish if that's what you want to do. Most boats here sell their catch to help keep costs low for you. An increasing number nowadays will release fish but you may pay more up front for the charter. Being fully aware of what will happen will keep your day from being spoiled by any surprises. Oh, that goes for tackle too, meaning most boats use very heavy tackle (130# class) in case a true monster bites and also to cover for any mistakes made by newbie big game tourists. If you want to play around with light tackle be sure to discuss it with the boat you have in mind.
Aloha, hope you end up with sore arms from fighting too many fish.

Mike DeRego has won more Lahaina Halloween Shootout's than any other captain in the state, this past summer he rcently wieghed two 500 plus pound fish in two seperate Kona tournaments. The maggie joe also just recently caught a grander. The maggie joe is the largest multi passenger sportfishing vessel in the state of hawaii.

Russell Tanaka on the "Magic"
is no question the baddest captain on Oahu. His credentials speak for himself, check his website. Very nice 55 pacifica which is great or the seas around Honolulu this time of year. He is out of Kewalo basin. You want fishing stories with pics to back them up, just ask hime! Awesome guy..

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
Some of the best charterboats in the world operate out of the Islands and some very good ones have been mentioned here. I'm kind of partial to Maggie Joe because they do a great job (they caught the biggest blue of '09) and Capy Mike Hennessy is one of our Field Staffers who gives us a lot of input on big game fishing of all kinds.
Talk things over with the various captains mentioned here and choose the one you like best - I don't think that you can go wrong with any of them.
Mahalo!
