No, we didn't weigh it. More interested in getting it back in the water for a good release. At the time we guessed it 75-80 pounds, but I seen several photos of roosters that were weighed at about the same weight and "mines bigger" so who knows? For reference, I'm 6 foot and 220 pounds.

My contribution

Man, those are some cool pics. The pic of the kid with the redfish on the dock, stoked!

The guys holding the hoo as the rods are going down, priceless.

The story of the carp, very cool.

Then there's the one of the guys on the express Viking holding the blue, totally phsyk'd, broken out-rigger and all.

This thread is achieving what we wanted it to, to tell the most incredible or one of the most incredible and/or memorable experiences you have ever had with regard to fishing and have caught on film. I'm sure every one of those pictures couldn't be described with 1,000 words, I guess that's what we're looking for, a picture that says more than a thousand words.

Oh yeh, and then there's Josh. What can you say, he's living the dream.

Well here's my contribution.

This picture was taken in Aug. 1998 during the Sturdivant Island Giant Tournament in Portland, Maine. It was taken on the third day of a three day tournament. Long story short, well as short as possible........

Day 1 we were fishless, were fishing on Jefferies ledge south of Portland. With about 4 hours left in the first day we decided to steam to Portland and fish at a spot that was closer to the tournament headquarters. We roll into an area that had about 15 boats sitting on it and that had been sitting there since dawn, every one fishless, not a single fish taken form that area all day. It was late and we had no choice but to pull in and give it a shot. After setting and coming tight on the ball we mark a fish off the bottom, not even five minutes after getting there. I grab a herring jam a hook into it and freespool it to the bottom, the weight hits the bottom, I take a few cranks and we are HOOKED up! We pop off the ball fight the fish for about an hour and put the dart in it.
No one else caught a fish there all day. Oh, by the way, becasue we were so tight on time to weigh in, we left our anchor and ball there.

First day leaderboard had us in 2nd place with a 390lber.

First place was 660.

Day 2, obviously we head back to our ball and figure we'll give it a half day and if nothing happened, we'd make a move. After about an hour, and same as day one, we started marking a single fish just off the bottom, drop a bait and BANGO, an hour and a half later we put a dart in a 598lber. We knew it wasn't big enough for first and we also knew it was big for the size class of fish that had been around that summer so we we comfortable settling for second. Two fish in two days is an accomplishment in it's own right, anyone who giant fishes knows this. We left our anchor ball there again.

Day 3, about 15 or so fish on the board and fishing being decent we headed out hoping no one would bring in a bigger fish than 598 and if that happened hopefully it wouldn't be two boats bringing in bigger fish, we'd be out of the money. The majority of the fish to that point except for the two were in the 400lb size class. We get to our ball and within 30 minutes we started to mark fish again. Same thing happened, same place for the third day in a row. A single fish just off the bottom. I grabbed a bait, placed a hook crudely into it's back and freespooled it to the bottom. Off to the races again! About an hour or so later the dart flew, and landed true, into a fish that we knew if we could get a tail rope on would be at the top of the leaderboard.

The picture below was taken by the boat owners girlfriend about 2 seconds after the 765lb First place and winning fish was tied off.

The rest of the day we waited, with fingers crossed, that no one would bring in anything bigger. There were a few fish brought in later that day and one that was, according to radio chatter, real big. It ended up being 590, giving us 1st and 3rd places. The picture below says more than 1000 words.

Check out where the chair is mounted.

Tuna Day

I vote for the GBFT story above this post.

This picture is from the end of our best day ever fishing offshore in Hatteras. We caught somewhere around 50 Blackfins, 20 false albacores, and a bunch of AJ's. It was non stop the whole day. Two of us jigged fish all day, my wife, for the first time ever jigged three blackfins by herself, and the two old men took turns reeling in fish my buddy and I hooked. We even told the mate he could reel them in. It was flat calm out on the water, no other boats were out there. It was Feb. 2 and it was the captain's second charter of the year and the second charter for the 30+ boat marina where he was at.

This is a picture of my girlfriend Nicole, and her personal best Dorado. It was caught off of Los Barrilles MX two years ago. Another angler was hooked up to a Striped Marlin on a live bait. Nicole saw this fish swim into the lure pattern and pulled the rigged live skipjack out of the tuna tube and threw it at Dorado. The DoDo grabbed the skippy and the tug o war was on. The long bait leader prevented her from using the rod so she handlined the not hooked Do Do to the boat. The Captain charges down from the tower and free gaffs the DoDo and flips him into the boat. The angler on the marlin was no dummy, he saw what was about to go down, cut his fish off and dove into the cabin closing the door behind him. As soon as the very green Do Do hit the deck a cage match ensued. The fish was never weighed but I guess it about 50lbs. based on the other fish I saw at the scales that week. For refernce Nicole is 5' 11" tall.

Doesn't really compare to what everyone posted but here ya go.

This was taken by one of my friends, Chris Cole, on our way back from a shark trip this season.

Couldn't have asked for a better day. Spent with my pops, brother, and best friend along with some thresher for the table.
