8 MONTHS WHEN THE 2ND WAS A LUCKY DAY

FIRST 4 PHOTOS
On November 2, 2006, the first day of the 2006 Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot, we hooked up immediately to a large fish on a live skipjack. It was by far the largest we had ever hooked in our 4 years in the tournament. After an hour and a half, the hook pulled and our hearts sank.

20 minutes later, we hooked up again on a Penn 50 on a short stand up rod. Because of the length of the rod, the chair was out of the question. Unfortunately, we were left with no harness and had to use sailfish belts. My father had just had a hip replacement so my other 2 buddies and I decided that we would continue to switch the rod (within the tournament rules)so we could stay fresh. After 4 hours on the fish, none of us could hold on for more than 2 minutes without our knees or back giving out. The tuna was finally landed after 4 hours and 20 minutes. We were 48 miles out of Cabo and we made it back into the Harbor entrance with 13 minutes to spare before being disqualified.

It was a very emotional and satisfying experience. The Yellowfin tipped the scales at 318 Lbs and measured 85 inches. It is the Tournament Record of the Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot and Costa Del Mar is giving away an additional $75,000 to any team that beats it when the tournament goes off in a couple of weeks.

I have also been told that it is the largest Yellowfin to ever be caught in any tournament worldwide, but I cannot confirm that.

5TH & 6TH PHOTO
On June 2, 2007, Our Team was fishing in the final day of the Pirates Cove Tuna Roundup off the Outer Banks of North Carolina. In dramatic fashion, in the last hour of the Tournament, we landed a double and a triple which included our largest Yellowfin and our only Big Eye of the Tournament. Thanks to both those fish and a large Dolphin we caught the day before we swept all the catagories that year. The Bigeye only crept by the second place fish by a half pound. My favorite is picture 6 of Eddie and his shirt taking the Bigeye to the weigh-in.

7TH & 8TH PHOTO
On July 2, 2007, the last day of our annual father/son trip to Manitoulin Island, Canada, my son caught a large Walleye to win our big fish bet. I told him that I would mount it if he would donate his winnings to the cause. After arriving home to Ohio with the fish sill whole, we looked in the IGFA record book and realized we had the Jr World Record on our hands. We then followed the IGFA guidelines and got his name in the record book. We were later contacted by Field & Stream who did a small article in the Dec 07/Jan 08 Issue. His record still stands today.

Awesome stories and pictures on here. Merry Marlin get my vote so far. I too like the fact that amidst the commotion someone found time to snap that picture!

Here is mine. Thats me on the right. This was my first canyon trip ever, I had done a couple inshore trips to the dump, lanes, etc, but this was my first trip all the way to the edge. We were prepped for an overnighter, but the weather was rapidly deteriorating. We had started trolling mid morning and early afternoon we were fishless as we watched a big squall line get closer and closer on the radar. Right as the wind picked up and the rain started spitting we got tight to a 6 way on yellowfin. I grabbed a rod with a safety strap and started fighting the fish with the only belt i could use at the time. I was 7 or 8, I cant exactly remember and there is no date on this picture... My dad and our good friend each fought and landed 2 fish while i struggled on mine. I can remember not letting go of the rod for the life of me. After my fish was gaffed and iced we headed to home. I'll never forget this day

Contest Dealine Extended

Nice work!!

Because of the overwhelming response to this thread we have decided to extend the deadline for entries until the 1st of Dec.

Just remember this contest is about that single picture that tells a lengthy story. The quality does not matter is all about the content. Please only post one picture and make sure to vote for a picture as well.

There is a possiblilty we may be adding an additional rod to the winning photo but that has yet to be determined.

Please also be sure to write a short explanation of the photo but remember the whole point of this contest is to tell an entire story with one picture without the need for a written explanation.

Thanks to all contributors to date, there are truely some remarkable photos.

Cheers to all and a safe holiday season. The winner will be announced on Dec 2nd 2009.

From the crew at Fat2na Sportfishing Inc.
