Hi All:
10 days on the NORWEGIAN COAST and 6 days fishing out of the UK. WOW what a trip.
I fished STAVENGER, BERGEN, ALESUND, TRONDHEIM, FLAAM and other tiowns.
I found that when I started researching this trip in OCTOBER, I was already to late. Lots of people go to NORWAY for th fishing and scenery. Almost all of the charter boats had ALREADY been reserved.Y? 'cause the summer fsihng is short and EXCITING. Most Europeans KLNOW this and get over there a.s.a.p.
I found that TRONDHEIM and STAVENGER waere the best places for me to charter a boat. I also found that getting into a B&B was the best for SCENERY and fishing ANYWHERE in NORWAY. I went went with my wife (SWMBO) and a family friend.
YOU DON'T NEED to fish the NORWEGIAN SEA in the summer. Fish the FIORDS.....FISH the FIORDS....FISH THE FIORDS. I fished all over and found the above to be true for me.
WARNING...WARNING...WARNING... If you fish in the sea....BRING A EPIRB and a FULL floatation suit. FRIEGHTERS and CRUISE SHIPS won't see you. the wakes from these ships will scare the "HOOHAAH" ouut of you. If the o/b engine stops or some other problem happens. Kiss your buns goodby,'cause no one will find you. out there.
FIORD fishing is GREAT. Drifting just 20-30 feet from a FIORD wall is great. Your fishing over a 10 foot shelf that 100+ feet down. WOW. Let that jig slowly drop down and you'll NEVER know aht will suck it down. Drift another 30 feet away and your fishing a shelf another 100 feet down. CRAZY but wonderfull.
Cod to 30+, halibut to 30,40 , Pollack to 20, Coalfish to 30, wolfish to 20, are all available. No, I didNOT get CODZILLA (90+) or MOBY HALIBUT(150+). Those fish are caught in Oct/Nov/Dec and mostly in the outislands. the EUROPEAN sea fishing CONTESTS are held out there. WEAR WARM CLOTHS and SURVIVAL SUITS then.
Back to SUMMERTIME FISHING:
The sun NEVER SETS. The sun set(?) @ 22:30 and rose again at 03:00. All sun did was get just at the horizon and get about dusk.
SWMBO had to come out and grab me 'cause all I did was FISH...FISH...FISH.. I just could not stop. After three days, I was exhausted.
I caught COD, HALIBUT, POLLACK, CAOLFISH, LING, WINTER FLOUNDER, PLAICE(?) on spinning, coneventioanl,Fly rods, from shore, from jetties, docks, boats, piers and EVERYWHER I tried. UNBELIVEABLE!!!!!!!.
I use mostly (at first) my UGLY JUIGS that I sell.. How did it get that name? A charter captain looked down at me and said"GET THATXCXCXD UGLY THING off my boat". 'till he ended up buying some.
I iused the NOTWEGIAN Jigs in:
GLOW/PINK
GLOW/WHITE
GLOW/GREEN
BRIGHT RED/BLACK
BRIGHT CHARTRUSE/BLACK
MEDIUM BLUE
The weights went from 2 o 2ounces to 5 ounces in less than 40 feet to 16 ounces out in deep water.
HINT...HINT...HINT... Take off the treble and use a single 9/0. Makes life easyer to unhook the fish.
Bait worked well if you used Mack FILLETS. I used 10-16 ounce CHROME BALLS . I also ended up painting some in GLOW/GEEN and GLOW WHITE.
They seemde to work better than the standard CHROME BALL. INTERESTING aside that they use a PATERNOSTER rig for most of their bait fishing trips. It's a standoff wire rigs that keeps the bait out and away from the main line.
WARNING...WARNING...WARNING... CHECK YOUR AIRLINES for rod carry restrictions and baggage restrictions.
I was in LHR(LONDON) airport and I watched a bunch of guys throwing away gear/cloths. Y? 'Cause the next flight to a EU country allowed ONLY.........1(one) bag into the planes hold. The agent they went through DID NOT TELL THEM OF THE CHAMGE in EU FLIGHT REGS. OOUUCCHH!!
I went over and told them about the LEFT LUGGAGE area in LHR ...aka...HEATHROWairport. It cost them a few English Pounds a day to leave their extra baggs.
U can still put on two bags into the hold on DIRECT flight to the UK.
WARNING...WARNING...WARNING... Check with your airlines baggage requirements. Some AIRLINES will not allow a rod carry case over 6 feet,6 inches. One guy had a carry case 7 foot long and the airline guy at the counter made the guy pay an OVERSIZE FEE,even though the case was NOT oversize. Even the Supervisor sided with eth baggage clerk. The traveler had to take his case to the airlines AFTER he got back from his vacation. OOUUCCHH!!
HINT...HINT...HINT...I go to the AIRLINE website I'm flying and PRINT OUT THE REGULATIONS. I take that with me when I fly. I saved lots of time and aggravation that way. AA and BA allowed a rod carry case of 7 feet on international flights.I still will caheck before I fly again. 'NUFF SAID.
I used my RED/WHITE T'ZER FLY on all my jig combos. I was suprised that I caught so many more double headers in NORWAY. I also found that PINK was the HOT...HOT...HOT color. Asking around, I found that most guys who fish there used PINK as the 1st goto color. I used a 8 inch HOT PINK and Blue speckelled plastic worm that had most guys on the boats I fished asking for them . I gace away mmost of them at the trips end. I gotta make more of them. Even ROAR wants them for his charter boats and his trips to the LOFOTEN Islands this winter . He's in the EU competetion there. He's sponsored by some fishing hook company.
GO ROAR ! WACKM N STACKM
IF YOU GO:
Exchange rate was 6KRONER(NOK) per 1.00 DOLLAR(US)
$7.00(US) a dollar gas per gallon.
FOOD just as expensive.
HOTEL , just as expensive.
Fishing charters=anywhere from 900NOK up to 2000NOK per hour. MINMUM of 6 hours per charter.

My best place to fish?
BERGEN off the docks for small cod/pollack( less than 3 pounds) but plent of them
TRONDHEIM Larger Cod/Pollack from the Docks and piers. No boat needed.
ALESUND for bait fishin. Buy the bait right off the fishing boats. Fish the Tourist boat docks and the many small bridges. Not big fish, but plenty of them. Drive out to the FIORDS for the scenery.
STAVENGER for the BEST HOTEL/FOOD/FISHING/SIGHTSEEING(NO FIORD)
FLAAM If you like to have the HOOHAAH scared out of you.......DRIVE the HAIRPIN TURNS up and down the FIORDS. God Bless you and I'll pray for your safe driving. If you can get a local to take you Fiord fishing, you'll enjoy it too.
Thats about all for NORWAY. If you have any questions, e-mail me. Check out my site for new bottom gear.
I'll get my stuff together for the fabulous WRECK fishing out of ENGLAND. I'll post tha info in a while.
