Norolk Canyon insanity...6/19/09

Crewed up on Oblivion (Private boat) out of VA Beach yesterday. INSANE tuna fishing yesterday for everyone in the area. We estimated that we had over 80 bites and landed in the area of 60 Yellowfins. Many were just under legal but we managed a nice mess of fish from just over legal to about 40 pounds. Most were in the 20 pound class. We also had some Mahi, a small Mako (released) and some bluefish.

It was just crazy fishing...we had one lull where we pushed offshore looking for bigger fish but ended up back in bait with multiples on for hours (tons of squid...saw some of it bright red 12" and on the surface). Two tones, birds, sharks, everything.

This was a special trip as I took my Dad and my Father in Law for the day. My Dad is still on long term recovery from Liver transplant surgery (twice) and struggled with seasickness all day (he never used to get sick but does now). We got him in on the action though and he enjoyed the action a lot. Picked some off on jigs under the teasers too...

Not that I had heard of but with all those "m&m" YFT's around, there's gotta be some big Makos and a Blue or two around

Very cool report. Man if this could only last into late July/August.

the past 2 years they skirted up the coast and avoided anglers from OCMD.

Thanks Mark...we had taken my boat last Sunday (Chad a couple other buddies) and caught 25 keeping our 12 and I thought that was a good bite...Friday was just nuts
