Does anyone bring live bait with them offshore, on the chunk? If so what type? Are you buying it or catching it your self? How does it produce?

I always have a couple dozen live snapper blues or spot in the livewell for an overnighter. Some nights they make a huge difference when you can't catch any live squid.

DEALERS WANTED!! Any dealer who has not received a Stalker Outfitters wholesale package PM me your Address.
My kid specializes in filling the livewell with snappers the day before a run![]()
hahahah thats funny, Are there any techiquies for kepping them alive longer? Are you fededding them anything? Just thrown them in the live well. where are you hooking the fish. Are you useing a bigger leader, 80-100 fluro?
The only secret to keeping them alive is not overcrowding the livewell. I have tried to put some food in with them but for some reason they won't eat in the livewell.
For leaders I use the same LB that I use on my other baits which is 40-80 pound fluorocarbon and bridle them thru the eyes with a small rubberband like you would rig a goggle eye for sailfishing.

If I know im going out on a chunking trip I will have Spot or small croaker in the live well. They have saved me many times. I look at it like trying to mix a little of the South Florida live bait fishing and the NE Canyon fishing together.
I do believe that most of fish in South Florida have seen every lure ever made swim in front of their faces and they have been released after biting those lures that they become very smart and WILL NOT EAT A LURE. So you use live bait with light flurocarbon leader at the right time of day and BAM that huge snook in Hawks Cay Resort that punked me for 2 weeks came to the boat and and got another education on fishing. So after that the next time the Yellowfin had lock jaw in the Canyons I thought of that snook and I did the same thing.
Everyone here has been on the hook w/ a nice dolphin swimming around the boat eating everything chunk you toss until you put a hook in one. That is when you need that livey. Croakers work great and can be caught off almost any dock.
You don't want to foul the bait well with anything. Most baits are sensative and it doesn't take much to kill them. Even reaching in the well with suntan lotion on your hands can result in a few dozen no longer live baits.
Also using a kite whlile drifting works great.
