No hoo's in the cooler...

When you are not dragging around ballyhoo or other natural baits, what are your favorite artificial baits for dolphin and tuna?

I have included a few of mine below, its quite a few but it depends on where I am and what the conditions are like. Some are jet heads other are hand made lures. Most are around 6-7 inches tops.

Post your favorites...

Calling AhiSlayer and Patudo

I only pull lures too....But I don't have a digi....My collection is large but not as large as some people I know

Wait for the Ahi Slayer to post some picts........He has the largest lure collection out of anyone I know....And Patudo is a lure historian....a human lure encyclopedia......Hopefully, they can post some pics of their collections.

I'm just a nobody..

I too use almost all lures for meatfish, don't have a digi but most of my lures are fairly simple anyway. Dorado: well if you want small ones the basic bonito feather is great. Think small. I'll run a bird in front of the lure on the stinger bait to hold it in position and stop it being blown about. Bigger dodos: just upsize the lures. I like about a 6" but have seen a lot of the gaffer kine strike bigger stuff from 8 to 10" and bigger. If you want a whopper dorado pull along a 12" or large 10" lure. Problem with these bigger baits is, they will get you blue marlin bites so don't run them on light tackle. All a lure needs to do is stay in the water popping and smoking. Most resin heads in smaller sizes are too light. I like weighted peanut style baits and plungers and my favourite skirt colours are blue/silver and pinks. I've never had much luck on greens but understand green, lumo etc can be successful so just go with what works. Generally, if you are clued up on what bait is in the area, try and match it in size and colour, but I don't like everything behind the boat to look the same.

Tuna: In our fishery I believe it's more important to find the fish or at least the right place. Lure size, placement and colour is probably more important than head shape. Depending whom you speak to, leader size and visibility can also be an issue. You can't go wrong with jets in 6 1/2" to 9 1/2" skirt sizes, heavy bullet heads, flat face or cup face etc also fine. Dark colours, blues and pinks are my favourites. Plugs like Rapalas, Halcos etc do get bit but prefer to use skirted lures whenever possible as it's harder to run on busting fish with plugs. Teasers, boring old squid chains are what I use mainly.

This is really just the bare bones basics and to be honest I do try to fish as simply as possible nowadays..in the eastern Atlantic competition is less and the most important thing is to find the fish. Ahi would be much more on the cutting edge than me.
