    newbie rigging question

Having just graduated from a panga to a Contender with outriggers, it's about time for us to work our way up another notch on the offshore fishing ladder. I was just looking at teasers. The local shop has a string of rubber ballyhoo that looks good to me, but I was reading about these mirrored blocks some people tow instead of a string of artificials. Water is as clear here as the ocean gets. I am wondering if a string of soft-rubber ballyhoo wouldnt get shredded pretty quick by the wahoo here. I was also wondering if because of the bright sun and clear water, one of those mirrored thingy's might not attract fish from long distances, and have a higher survivability rate once they got close enough to realize its not a meal.

Any advice on which type of teaser should work best in clear, tropical water? Will probably end up with both types. eventually.

the block of wood as you call them are witchdoctors... you tow them off the back cleats, nice action, plenty of flash in the water.... But don't tell pitchbait i told you .. Bobby loves them.

Get em both... Run the mirrors off the transom and the daisy chains off the inside... Run four baits and you will do well. You have a lot of wahoo down there so consider wire leader at east on darker colored baits. Better yet fly me there and I'll show you...

Its truly heartwarming how many SFC members are willing to actually give up some of their winter quality time to come down to some scruffy desert island where sunburn is a constant threat. I do appreciate it.

I also appreciate the advice on the teasers...cause it's a mystery to me, so far, why you would tow something in the water that fish want to bite, and then not put any hooks in it. The local shop doesn't have the witchdoctor things. I was just there this morning, whittling away at a gift certificate I got for some religious holiday earlier this week. I saw two teaser strings, one was supposed to be mullet,I think....but the other one was definitely ballyhoo.

The weather is supposed to calm down Tuesday, and be good for the rest of the week. Just trying to get my ducks lined up for a few days of fishing.

Well then screw the mirrors run the hoos... Run five baits and fly me down...

Truth be known I dodn't run teasers very often in the islands... Cudas love em... Rig out a dozen hoos some with wire some with mono and go fishing...

Not complicated ... Screw a mirror to a slanted 2x 4 and you're good to go... It doesn't have to be real good a cuda or wahoo will eat it a few minutes after you put it in the water...
