Never thought I'd say it but I am with Hubris on this one, the barbarism of commercial whaling is incompatible with 'civilized' human society. I find the SSCS as repugnant as anyone else but unfortunately they are it. They are the only ones actually making headway to stop it. The ICW is a joke, Greenpeace is what they are, an observe only group though they did have some success intercepting some whale meat heading to market and exposing it last year.

This year the ICR is fielding its weakest ever fleet, they lost their tanker/meat hold ship to scrap and had to charter another tanker at the last minute, one that does not have freezer capacity either so once the Nishin Maru is full of meat they will have to come home. The SM2 ship that sank the Ady Gil is not in the southern ocean this year.

By next year there will be an international law in effect banning the use of heavy fuel oil in ships below 60 degrees south which will make the factory ship Nishin Maru illegal to operate there unless they use diesel which will be prohibitively expensive. They will either have to break this law or garner even heavier government subsidies to operate next year.

So far the whale kill this season has been greatly reduced and far below the necessary quotas to make money.

For one thing if Dolphins are so intelligent why do they return to the same place year after year after year for decades only to be slaughtered?
It wasn't a movie or maybe the did make a movie on it, but it was a documentary on the cove and the breeding habits n such. I don't remember the name or the guy that did it

That show is an embarassment for conservationists all over the world. If you're for whaling great, if not that's great too.

The morons involved with the production of that show as well as the inept, completely clueless, uneducated, untrained and inexperienced crew members involved with that program set examples of how not to do things. While their goal may be noble, they make a mockery of themselves every time they have to commence any type of evolution.

You have a bunch of people that are willing to give their lives for whales, great, problem is every injury or life threatening situation is a result of ignorance and no training not so much the level of danger involved in chasing Jap whale ships. Just because you believe in something does not mean you should get involved when it is clear that you lack the mental capacity and experience to play a positive role in it. The show, in many ways, makes real, trianed, professional conservationists look bad.

Maybe they should take it off the air before someone dies, not because they are fighting for whales but because a majority, if not all of them, have no business conducting any type of shipboard evolution. The show is a joke and while the cause is noble it's difficult to watch such stupidity. The only reason to watch is to see who's going to get injured next because of someones stupidity.

I'm sure there are thousands of people, better suited for the enviornment and possess the intellegence level need to conduct operations safely and professionally while giving their cause a good name. Whoever chooses crew must be in it only for the entertainment value. What a buch of

I dont think there are that many shows on TV anymore with real actors. I heard Charlie Sheen makes 100 million a year for his version of absurd behavior. I love the show, but as a TV producer, he looks at it this way. I can get people to act outrageous for nothing. American idol is an example, housewives of whatever, first time homebuyers, orange county choppers, whale wars, I almost got away with it, wife swap,.......can I stop now? Im making myself sick. These people dont demand anything like the budget of a real TV show, and because they act outrageous..........We watch.
Still, in 2011 harvesting whales for research is a joke. Its also unecessary. The white haired guy on that show has been living that life alot longer than any of us have known who he is..........For the sake of argument lets just say hes Jacque Cousteau of 2010 and beyond, certainly not the Jacque Cousteau we all grew up with. Then again, being outrageous in ones behavior has become socially OK, even politically correct.
I say he does more good than bad even though I admit, I Cringe sometimes.
