Ooooooooooohhhhh! Knock at the door and a plain brown wrapped box sits on my porch...I hear the messenger drives away... Nope, it ain't tickin but that don't mean its not deadly!
My knife blade shakes as I slice the tape... Then there they are.... Can I get a hallelujah?

Ooooooooh... Oh , I already said that... I had to dig up a welders helmet to look directly at this stuff! Impressed? More like floored. Speechless even (sorry Box, just had to borrow that phrase on something this big)... !!!

Wow! and fast too... 1200 miles away less than a day ago and now in my hot little hands!


I gotta go do some riggin and boat work now... I'll check back at the end of the day...

Well I just had to bring them all over to the boat for the family reunion... Four generations of Masher all meet for the first time... Wait a second! Whats the new one doing... Its standing up straight while the others slouch!

How can that be????

Aha! Must have something to do with the new counter weight that Tim's crews engineered into it!


Well the generations all had a nice visit. They drank tea, talked of days of old and days to come. Then the new family all came together and posed for this shot...
Marlin need to be afraid... Very afraid!

The interesting part of this set is that four are slated to run in the opening spread... Those who know me know i've been a stickler for running "scuffs" that had caught at least several billfish each in my spreads...
At chub this year we splashed old trusty ones and new side by side. Though I'm slow to put out new, we did and it produced well for us... Some pieces just won't come out but the question marks are gonna sit on the bench and let these guys play first string for a while.
When I saw Tims designs he has compiled, I was impressed. The ones shown above have relatives in my old run of models but they had been taken to the "Next step". My mind after all the years of plastic making can see instantly what those little tweaks should produce in the way of action and where in what spread and what speed they will WORK TOGETHER at.
I capitalized the last phrase because that is essential to making a spread that will work. Its not just a matter of slinging a bunch of lures that have caught fish. ITs about which ones will run with each other at a given speed and sea condition...
So many times I have jumped on a boat and get the guys all start with " I caught a xxx pounder in Panama with this one" or "I caught a xxx pounder in St. T with that one..." Thats all fine and dandy and in most of those cases those baits are damn fine ones. But... One might be a seven knot wonder in following sea while another is better at eight in a trough.You can only go one speed at a time so only one will be working the way it should. Rather than run both. Pick the one that will run at the speed you plan on fishing in the condition you plan on fishing, then add others that run at that speed too.
