new E Loran coming out?

I was reading the latest in Sportfishing Mag. and I read where there is the possiblity of an updated Loran / GPS combo that may be in the works. Does anyone know anything of this? And if so will they be using the same Loran C TDs? That would be really nice! That might help me retire my Sitex XJ-1.

yea I read that too, I think since the government finally heard what everyone has been saying for years some of the companies have decided to come out with some newer units. you older unit will still work fine.

It's made by Si-tex, and yes it does use Loran-c td's, and is really accurate. I made a trip on a commercial snapper boat the first part of feb. that had one. It seemed to be a great unit, but I wasn't the running the boat, so I didn't get to fiddle with it to much.

On a related note, has anyone heard anything about the Galileo system and when it might be headed towards our industry? I keep hearing rumors that the Loran chain's days are numbered anyways, so wouldn't it make more sense to steer towards that? Just a thought.

I haven't heard anything about it. What's the basis behind it's operation? I heard that loran will be around for while due to the gps sats vulnerability to being shot down by enemy countries. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Loran is dirt simple lotech and almost impossible to screw with and costs very little to keep in operation.No brainer to keep it running.I'm not up to speed on this newer version though.
