Okay, stupid question; Since it looks like a fish won't it get hit?? Or is that not a problem set up in the position in front of a dredge?

I generally fish the weight about 3' in front of the dredge. Any longer it can become unmanagable when trying to clear the dredge in the heat of the moment.

Not a stupid question at all, wahoo have been known to come tearing through a dredge. I recommend using heavy cable for all connections to the dredge. The photo above is a prototype, most likely the actual weight I will be selling will have 2-3' of 900lbs. cable on either side of the weight; a loop at the front end and a Ball Bearing snap swivel at the end, where the dredge can be attached.

Also, when trolling double dredges make sure to connect the two dredges with cable, again, when a wahoo comes tearing through you want to make sure everything comes back.

I will post some pictures up on moday when I get back to the shop.

I've lost a few dredges due to Wahoo and have had 2 Blue Marlin target the weight (that I know of). One was a very very large Girl in a tournament that grabbed a Mojo head (hookless) we used for a dredge weight, got all tangled up, and took the whole mess with her to the deep--- She pulled that 55lb of drag on the dredge rod like a Bluefin on a TLD---another $250 down the drain, but it was worth it just seeing her.
Point is, it's going to happen if you pull a dredge no matter the weight, but a nice looking weight like this Offshore Innovations with tend to attract, not shun, the Whites and Sails.

    Dredge Weight with Cable

Here is a picture of the dredge weight rigged and ready with cable on the front and back of the weight. This is the same cable I use when connecting two or three dredges together.
