we go there at least once a year....not for fishing though......it's island hoping from puerto rico to virgin gorda....hell of ride....about 75 nm may be less....check out the puerto rico trench up there.......definitely good fishing in that drop...in May i would say.......Blues, Blues, and more Blues....woth a couple of hoos and may be a bull mahi or two.....

btw, if you end up there YOU MUST GO TO NORMAN ISLAND and ask for a BUSHWALKER in pirates bar......

Wow, some great ideas guys!! Even one I haven't heard of before (Mauritius). Thanks for all the the leads.

Bikini Atol and the Marshalls would be amazing. I need to find out more about accomodations. Mauritius and Rodriguez island look incredible. The Osa penninsula and the Azores are good thoughts. Plus, the BVI and Dominican Republic are on my list. I have alot of research to do!!!

Thanks again and I'll keep you posted!

Feel free to keep the ideas coming!

Went on my honeymoon in June, we stayed at the Paradisus Palma Real on Punta Cana, DR.. Went fishing one day and had all the big mahi and marlin to boot.. The Palma Real is a true 5 star resort.. We would go back in a heart beat and fish a few more days next time...

    Good luck..

I have just spent a wonderful long weekend in Kamalame Cay. My girlfriend and I stayed in a Marina Room, wonderful and spacious, very clean and a great deal if budget is an issue. If you got money, get yoru own privte villa on the beach.

Overall, the most common online complaint that I found prior is the price point. I can see how the price might seem high, but if you break down the Room Rate and divide into it the Open Bar, wine selection, tips and overflowing lunch baskets for off premise meals, the place is a very fair deal. Also, the high price helps insure that everyone there is intent on enjoying himself or herself.

A few things to take into account. Dinner is Caribbean Casual, so don’t over pack. Bring a Flashlight, and plan on the weather and time of year visiting. Its a common mistake to arrive thinking that its perfect year round. If you don’t plan on par taking of water activities, you will be missing out. The flats are so amazing, that it’s worth it alone for a day as a nature trip.

Come to Kamalame with an open mind, don't expect the Four Seasons. If you want that kind of trip, then go to the Four Seasons. If you are adventurous, want a different trip; willing to see that a boutique resort can surpass your mundane standards, then Kamalame is amazing. If you can't be pleased, want everything to be like a Grand Hyatt, and are looking for flaws, then stay in New York.

Take advantage of communicating with the hotel prior to your trip, send detailed question, requests etc. You will have no surprises. Margaret, the manager, works really hard to make each person’s trip special. One gets the feeling that the Sun doesn’t rise on the island unless she organizes it. If you’re interested in romance, give her a shot at planning a picnic on a deserted island for two. Imagine gourmet food, bottle of wine and your own private beach.

The Food. I was a chef for several years. I can’t tell you anything other than 10 out of 10. Perfectly seasoned, healthy, creative and well presented. Service is outstanding, and the staff’s willingness to accommodate variations is amazing, given the limited provisions. Can't understand how a restaurant in Miami won’t substitute ingredients for me, yet on a remote island it's not an issue.

Ok. No phones in the room, not TV/DVD unless you want one. I loved it, others can't handle it. You will meet other like-minded couples, and groups. The conversations are fun, light and usually regarding the food, the hotel, and fishing or how great the free drinks are. The bar (both) is self serve, which for me is ideal. I like mixing my drinks and adjusting them to my taste. The best part for me was not having to open my wallet at every meal. I love the idea of getting up when I’m done, and not waiting for a check

It may depend on your target species if any,...USVI or BVI (blue marlin) may not be really getting cranked up in May as a rule. Puerto Rico...same(?)ting.

Rum Cay..good idea! gotta get a-hold-a Capt Flash, tell him allen sent u...do some google searches with flash and rum cay and u should find a contact # etc.(found-it 561-644-0127.)
Harbour Is...another great idea..maybe the best all around spot. San Salvador Is.(Bahamas) and Rum Cay are kinda remote, Harb Is may offer more to keep busy if ur looking for more variety (dinner, lunch, golf cart to tour Is.,dance spots, horseback riding, pink sand beaches, THE glass window, devils backbone-diving, bars) and tuna fishing and marlin fishing can be very good...most small boats there target tunas w/live bait. If your cash flow is good Capt Flash and Rum cay would be a great trip....big boat and great crew...great eats too for sure.

    S. Pacific sounds exotic, don't know anyone there.
Assension Is. can be excellent too but may be a tad early there too.

Kamalame Cay looks a little pricey for me. I am sure it is nice but that is a pile of money for a 10-14 day stay (hopefully). Harbor Island and Rum Cay are now on my list too. I was leaning away from the Bahamas and Carribean but the proximity would make for more R&R time. Thanks again for all of the ideas!

By the way, has anyone ever done a bareboat charter on a power boat? I have been looking at the options and unfortunately can't seem to find a twin diesel sportfish for hire!! Ano good or bad experiences with bareboat charters you can share would be appreciated!

Bare-boat charter on your honeymoon...not...sh*t happens and it ain't worth it my friend. Most people are afraid you'll "make a run" in their boat or worse...ain't gunna find that animal unless it's a mutual friend thing and even then it probably won't be worth the effort($) either.
