In need of San Juan PR charter boat

I did a search and only found one other post with regard to the topic and it was left unanswered.

I am planning a business trip to San Juan the end of January and i am interested in chartering. From what information i could gather it would be a good time for Marlin, Wahoo, and Sails. If anyone has had any experience, either good or bad with a charter boat there, please let me know.

    thanks

fished down there 3 times in the past 4 yrs. for the life of me i cant remember their names at the moment, but it was a father son team. those guys had balls the size of church bells. first yer we were there, the day we went the wx was F*cked. and i dont use that term lightly. the tournament that was goin on was cancelled that day and these guys still went out. def well inexcess of 10+ ft. 30 some foot bertram. we surfed that pig for about 20 min in the slop and managed a 50lb mahi.
the best quote of the trip:
"Hey capt, whats the biggest shit you been out in?"
"Not gonna lie to you boys, this is it!"
"Glad we got to share this with ya capt."

ill get their names for ya, they have since got 2 nice new boats and are def good at what they do.

i may even have video of that trip now that i think about it.

If it's these guys I would recommend them also. Capt. Jose Campos & Jose Jr.

We booked for two days, first day arrived at the dock and took a ride with the Capt. to look at the water and he called the trip. Second day weather wasn't much better but he wanted to try. It was amazing watching him guide the boat through the breakers to get out. Didn't catch anything but it was one of the best rides I have ever been on. He didn't charge us for the ride, he felt bad not catching anything, and just asked us to give a tip to the mates. I'm sure there are some good operations down there but this guy was one they make movies about.

I recommend http://www.fishinginpuertorico.com/ Captain Omar. I never fished with him, but talking to him I could tell he knew his stuff. Also was a very nice guy, clean boat, tackle etc. He explained that the fishing conditions were crappy at the time and he didn't want to charge us for a boat ride. He said we should come back in the late summer for great Blue Marlin fishing. Besides fishing go to the El San Juan Hotel Lobby at night (if your not staying there), it's a great time.

    Thanks all

Thanks for all the great information. It's greatly appreciated. I will definately do a bit more research. As i learn a bit more i will post here as well.

Carom, thanks for the info in advance, i am sure the nightlife info will be helpful. Also, since you're so close, what hotel would you recommend? The conference i am attending is at the San Juan Marriott but the thinking of staying at El San, or Ritz. Any suggestions? Mostly interested in beach/pool, rooms with views, and eating.

can't go wrong with either of them, are all very good, but i'll have to say that the el san juan hotel with be the best choice for what you looking for.....also, the lobby bar gets really nice at night, tons of local bait!.......if you get what i'm saying!....it's also about a 10 min drive or taxi from the marriott!. let me know if you need anything else!

Do not stay at the Ritz we stayed there one night and then transfered to the El San Juan.

Without a doubt check out Club Nautico De San Juan and ask for their charter service or better yet u may get lucky here ask for Mike Benitez and see what Mike has to offer, a few years ago he had two boat there for charter...no hotel commisions or extra middle men...right to #1.
Also if u don't get Mike & I doubt u will...see if Anjo (proniunced ANNE-YO) is still around and what ever boat he's on will be kind too.
Do a google search for mike benitez puerto rico and see what u find. He's THE man there.
