Where do you fish? How do you plan to fish? What do you plan to fish for?
The easiest way to attach the leader is with a properly rated ball bearing snap swivel. You have to double up your line coming from your reel. You can use a Bimini Knot or a Spider Hitch. I use a Spider since it is easier to tie. Hook the loop to the ring on teh snap swivel with an Offshore Swivel Knot. Taht way, if one side of the double breaks, the other will hold.
However, we have given up using doubled line altogether. Half of the time the double did not pull down evenly even though it looked as if it had. That leaves one side with extra line calling attention to itself. If your drag is set properly, and you use your drag properly, the line isn't going to break. We find the most practical way to tie the line to the swivel is to double over about a foot of line and then tie an Improved Clinch Knot with the doubled line. We have not had one of those fail in this usage.
Crimp a small loop in the end of your leader and snap it on the swivel.

I do pretty much the same as Lindsey suggusted. I take my running line do a spider hitch, then tie a no name knot to connect it to the leader and then crimp a swivel on. The only exception to this is blue marlin or shark fishing we do a loop to loop connect between the spider hitch to a very heavey wind on leader then crimp a swivel on the end of that. Basically, keep it simple. If you don't take the rods a part no need to cut it off after each trip. I cut it and tie a new one either after a big fish or after 2 or 3 trips. Never has failed for me!
Good luck!
My Friend,

all i have to say to this is wow.
actually i will say one more thing. What you need to do sir, is find a reputable captain and/or mate in your area and pay them to go fishing with you for at least a week. Tell them you have no idea what you are doing and need somebody to teach you. That is the best way to learn, not on the net.
give the guy a break. At least hes asking and is trying to learn something.![]()
FIRE THOSE 80'S UP AND GIVE ME A WHIRL!!
Do exactly what captain lindsay said! the easier way to do it!!
