I have a size system when they come up.
1. Net - close to legal, fish that get measured.
2. Small Gaff - 3' handle, 2" hook - grab most solid keepers.
3. Big Gaff - she's over 30lbs coming up, I grab the 5'er and make sure she lands in the boat. Customers usually get charged up when I make a quick grab for the big gaff.
Small fish and when they're really thick I just lift them in, but we mostly troll so lipping is really tough.
Getting a big fish in a net when the boat is moving is a real pain.
