you need one, everybody on the boat fishing needs one. the boat doesnt need one. if you charter i believe nobody needs one to fish on your boat as long as its a charter and you have everything you need to be a charter

In NC your are required to have an individual Coastal Recreational Fishing License for all on board, or a Blanket Charter license.
You can order licenses online - https://www.ncwildlife.org/Apps/Purc...on1.asp#online and print them yourself.
You can also purchase from an agent - https://www.ncwildlife.org/Apps/Wild...ent/Search.asp
I think Wally World in MHC has them...

If you charter, you need or must have a "For Hire" permit for your boat. You have 2 choices here...
1, each person on the boat must have a current NC fishing license including the Capt.
2, you may acquire a "Blanket" license ($250.00 or more depending on the length of the boat) for you boat and will also have to a current NC fishing license as the Master of the boat as it does not include him or her.

He might just be temporary status since I believe NC has reached its quota on permanent yankee status already this year.
hey, hey now, lets leave that yankee stuff on the dock, no I just have enough boats to fish in up here, and i'd like to be able to travel south on thursday night fish friday saturday and maybe sunday then come home, you have to remember our warm water up here is 70 miles off and usually doesnt start till june. i was thinking of just leaving my 34' cc at teachers lair on the trailer and just fishing it with nice forecasts. was thinking of hatteras area, lot closer to the gulf than up here, plus i would like to get into that jigging thing ya'all got goin on down there...i dont like to run with more than 3 or 4 people so being closer to the stream would cut down on the expence quite a bit, allowing us to fish consecutive days if the seas allowed. any opinions on my thoughts of this idea. good or bad.
It's hard to beat Hatteras in many respects. It can be a logistical nightmare unless you fly into Frisco by private plane. If you can do that, it doesn't get much better.
What is considered "coastal" and "Joint"... Are out of towners required to license up for say the biig rock?![]()
