My recap of Cab San Lucas with pics

My recap of Cabo San Lucas.

What a trip it was, getting the news that were going to Cabo sent butterflies directly to my stomach, “wow” I thought “ were going to Cabo”. John and I met up at the Philly airport to depart at 6:05 am and we landed in Huston Texas and had a three-hour layover.
As we are sitting there a massive front decides to roll through just as I was saying to John, “I hate this airport, to much unpredictable weather, makes the planes crash”
We looked into the sky and both said “holy shit” The sky was as dark as midnight as the leading edge of the front was right over the airport. To make things a little more interesting some of the clouds were dropping down into a spiral form almost taking the shape of a twister. Then the rain came, and rain it did. It rained so hard it delayed the airplanes for two hours. We had people to meet in Cabo at a certain time and we ere sitting on the tarmac waiting for the rain to stop.

    Welcome to Mexico

we landed 2 1/2 hours late went through customs, well I did John got the red light and got searched but all was good. I think he gave birth to a cow when he got the red light though. We were supposed to meet our pr guy, Jason Jepson at a bar in the airport but because we were late getting in he had to leave. So there we are in Cabo without a clue as to where we need to go, and then we see grant from Catalina Island and all is good. We take a 45 minute cab ride to Cabo and I must say this if you are a surfer then next time a hurricane forms off the Baja Coast go to Cabo, flying in I counted at least 15 right hand point breaks that were going off!!!!! The swell was 10 – 15 feet and clean. Once in Cabo we settled in and went to the Cabo Marina, what a beautiful marina. Found Jason and all were good.

The first night there John was tired and retired early, but me and Jason went out on the town for drinks and some fun. We went to the giggling marlin and cabo wabo both very nice bars and a load of fun. We found a street vender selling bacon wrapped hotdogs that were the best. If you go he is across the street from the comfort inn.

    Day 1
Day 1 was the registration of the Bisbee’s Black and Blue and that was something of a sight as teams from around the world lined up to drops loads of cash at the counting booth heavily guarded by the Mexican army all sporting M-16’s or whatever gun the army uses. Teams were from Russia, Sweden, Ukraine, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Tahiti, of course Mexico and U.S.A.

    Day 2

I was out fishing on the Pegasus, a 68-foot luxury fishing yacht that comes with a crew of 4, a cook, two mates and a captain that won the Bisbee’s a few years back.
And yes they are available for charter. Al the gear was top notch Shimano Tiagras on custom Melton rods. I meet the owner of Snell real estate, Chris Snell who is a very nice guy and a pleasure to talk with. The day started off with us making a run to catch bait such as Yellow fin, Mahi Mahi, Bonito, and whatever fish hit our lines. We caught 2 20-pound mahi and they were quickly bridled and sent back out to tempt a possible winning Marlin.
As we were slow trolling we caught two nice 15 20-pound yellow fin and got them bridled and out and caught a few Bonita and put them in the tuna tubes. We trolled around all day and got three-knock downs but no fish came tight, that’s fishing.
Got in around 6:30 or 7:00 pm and I went to dinner with Jason and John at the Baja Catalina for the best grub in Cabo San Lucas…Thanks George you’re the best!

    Day 3

Day Three was quite the day. I meet up with Jason in the early am to get on a helicopter to take the Arial shots. This was my first time in a helicopter so I didn’t know what to expect. The captain was top notch and had me sitting with ease as we took off for the sky.
I was holding on extremely tight as the doors were removed so that we, the photographers could get the shot. I was up in the air with geno and Larry dunmire both professional photographers, Steve writes for a bunch of mags like marlin mag, Saltwater Sportsman, etc. etc. Geno takes the shots for The Bisbee’s mag and does the writing. I got the shots and we flew around Cabo for a bit then landed.
Jason was there waiting for us and we drove back got some breakfast at Baja Catalina on the beach which I might add is beautiful with views of the famous arch of Cabo and the surrounding Blue waters. After breakfast I go back to the room get changed and meet up with John to drop off the footage of the shots I took from the helicopter. Just then Jason comes running into the room saying a fish is at the scales so John and I bolt down to the marina to take the shots but the fish didn’t make the weight. John went back to the room to upload all the pics and I stayed at the Marina to take pics of any potential fish coming to the docks. Two big fish came in, one was the winning fish at 620 lbs and the other was good for weight but not sure where they landed in the standings.

All in all it was a trip I will never forget as Cabo San lucas is a beautiful destination to visit for fishing, tennis, golfing, surfing and all other water sports.
If you are going to go fishing the charter fleet is top notch with boats from cheap to pure luxury. You would be hard pressed not to find a boat that would fit your lifestyle.
If you’re from the east coast and want to fish this tournament then I suggest you research the charter boats and get down there. Its worth it ten fold. I can’t stress it enough, the boats are top notch and you wont be disappointed.

Jason Jepson worked his ass of for us and for the contestants of the tournament. Jason is a huge part of this tournament and will do anything and I mean anything to make people happy and feel welcome. So next year when you go down there take a minute to say hi to Jason shake his hand, sit and have a beer with him.
I personally want to thank Jason for all the hard work he did for us both in Cabo and Catalina..Thank you sir. I also want to thank Wayne Bisbee and Trisha Bisbee for having us down there and letting us experience the Bisbee’s Black and Blue.

Last but not least I wnt to thank Capt John for giving me this oppertunity to experiance this with him on our adventure to Cabo and more
    to come.

    Nice read Kobey !

Thanks for stepping up and giving us fantastic photos/coverage of such a beautiful fishing resort. The aerial shotgun start was the best. Not that the other photos were any less, but the angle gives a whole new understanding to these tournaments.
