    My latest lure.

I had some free time over Christmas, so I made a new lure. Its designed for high speed wahoo. Was trying to get out tomorrow, but the wind kicked up, so maybe Saturday. Anywas, specs of the lure. 18 inches long (I really like big wahoo lures) weighs in at 14 oz. Has 2 hooks (12/0 front and 11/0 stinger) rigged stiff on 480 pound cable. Anyways, what do you think?

Its a home made one. I buy sheets of vynil and cut it to fit the lure. I ordered three new colors today, so hopefully I have them in by Friday. Making lures is addicting. I cant stop.

This may be a stupid question but where do you buy the lure "heads"?

That looks nice; Is the skirt taped or tied? Do you have a supplier for the heads?

    Nice job!

That's a really nice looking lure. If you are honestly asking for constructive opinions, I think that lure would be better suited as a shotgun billfish lure than a consistent wahoo producer. As far as wahoo go, I know you'd catch plenty on it, but you'd probably catch a bunch more if you shortened up the lure by several inches, maybe to 10"-12" total length. Again, it's just an opinion. The head is beautiful. Very nice work!

As to the head, I pour them myself in the garage. Its so easy to make em, I hate to even admit it. All you need is polyester resin, pill bottles and some brass tubing (thats the hardest thing to find).
I have a lathe, but someone borrowed it and its now awaiting new parts. I rough shape them with a belt sander and then finish shaping and polish them on a drill (until the lathe is fixed. Its pretty easy.

Barefootin, the skirts are tied on. Heavy E thread. Then I hit the thread with a sealant.

Wireman, I really do want feed back. I actually have made about a dozen smaller ones that would fit your size preference. I just really like big lures in the spread. I have completed two big ones, and have three more needing to be finished ie skirted. I actually came up with the idea for bigger lures while talking with a mate who makes his own lures while I was fishing in Hawaii this summer. He and I bounced ideas off each other, and this was the result of our conversation.
Here a couple more rigged lures. Some are metal heads, some resin. I have another 6 resin heads I worked on last night that I need to take pics of. I was supposed to be fishing them today, but weather forecast changed, and now it looks like it was very doable! )

Well, I just got the call... we are going to head out deep (from Jacksonville FL the ledge is 65 miles) to find some hoos. Weather is 2-4 with a 9 sec period. The boats that went yesterday said the bite was slow, and the water dirty even on the ledge. One boat went to 1000 foot and trolled, and picked up three hoos coming back into shallower water.

Very little in the way of flyers. I sure hope we can scrounge up a few. Hate to run that far to turn it into a bottom trip, though several 40-50 pound grouper were nailed at the ledge yesterday.

Heres a couple more I finished up last night. These are shorter... the red one is 13 inches. Hopefully I can show yall some narly "after" pics.
