My Kind Of Algorhythms: Marlin & Tuna Madness
There's a certain inherent rhythm one adopts after so many years in the tropics. A slow drying of the oil on a multi-layered painting, whereas once the colors were vibrant and fresh, after time the once sharp lines of differentiation blur together in almost communal effect. A sharing of the experience between borders, in a not so hurried way.
Long gone are the days of earlier madness. The memory of nights spent driving between Punta de Mita and Paradise Village at ungodly hours of the noche are fading, catching bait under the huddled glow of the single 12V spreader light zip-tied to the bimini of the 22' Grady, fueling up, grabbing clients, then roaring offshore as fast as the 225 hp 4-stroke Yammie could carry us. Yes, those days are but a faint and distant glow now under the illumination of a more tainted reality. Its funny how the beat can change, and an entirely different rhythm can lead your life in other ways. As i sit here, cradled in the soft leather hide of a new age dragon, Metallica blares from the Bose surround sound system and Ben and Ryan finish rigging the last of our 25 custom light sabers with which we will surely draw blood during the next few days. Adam and Nina are frolicking to the beat of "One" and i'm here ticker tapping along with Ulrich, Hammett, and the rest of the crew. I'm all about the algorhythms lately, and tonight, on the eve of a serious month of fishing, i dare say we have the groove of some kick ass mojo going. The boats are looking good. All four of them. Boomer, Maximo, Conquistador, and the red-headed stepchild Cha-Ching are all quietly pulling on their moorings. They're as eager as we are. It never changes, that rooted excitement that builds the night before a day of fishing. Nobody is outwardly talking about it, but the actions amongst the crew speak for themselves. Knots are checked and re-checked, oil levels ****ized hourly, lures, hooks, gadgets, and gizmos scrutinized for even the most insignificant flaw. Yes, it's go time amigos...nothing like going fishing again after a few days tied to the dock! These photos tell the story of the last month of madness we have somehow all endured. The economy may be chit, crime rates may be high, hell the Canadian dollar may even tank, but i'll tell you one thing amigos...despite all the bullshit the FISH STILL BIT. So really, who gives a chit about the rest.
