my 1st BFT, and 2nd

Well, before I move to KY, I wanted to catch a billfish and a BFT. Not too much to ask for and yet I have 6 months before I move and have accomplished these goals!! Thanks to Marty, Brian and the "Run-Off" for the billfish and thanks to Shane, Rick, and "Second to None" for not only one BFT but 2!!!.
Here is how it went:
12/20 favorable sea conditions, clear weather but COLD. Left the dock ~5am headed out to West Rock where the sat image showed a temp break. We were in 57 degree water and the gradient jumped to 65 just beyond us. We are pulling baits on four rods 2-80's & 2-130's. Then the reports from the radio started: 1 boat, 2 boats.....several more hooked up. I knew it would just be a matter of time, I was ready, I thought! ~9am the long rigger popped, false alarm, no, false albacore. A few more minutes and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZ
The planer had been tripped by something LARGE!!!!! I manned the rod while the others were cleared. I've never seen an 80 dump so much line so quickly!!! I thought, is it going to stop?? What do I do? Luckily after nearly spooling the reel, the fished stopped and with a little help from the capt (Shane) I was able to put quite a bit of line back on the reel---Then ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZ,
there went all of my progress! I fought the beast for one hour and fifteen minutes, WOW!!! Then Rick, Shane and I brought the giant into the boat for the preparation. Well once we returned to the bite, it wasn't long until yet again ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZ.
Again nearly spooling the 80 another big fish. I was able to get this one to the boat faster, but the last 50 yds was tough taking as much as the fish would let me, a quarter turn, half turn.... then finally we pulled him aboard and prepped him for the ride home.
What a great experience /day. I can't wait to do it again!!!

FishDoc-

Great report! Man...I know how you feel.....what a thrill of lifetime...Congrats to you, Shane and Baywolf on two great fish.

There aren't many BFT in Kentucky...you may have to visit often to get your fix!

I must admit, the first fish which was the 84 incher, wore me down a little, but I recovered for the second and it was actually not as bad.
You're right JD, I'll be looking to fish about every tournament in MHC that I can with someone? on my vacation time.
"Second to None" gentleman, I would love to come back on board!
Now what's next?? Maybe I'll shoot for a big Blue Marlin or maybe a Swordfish!
