    Motorola bag phones

    Hey guys, how's it going?

For those of you like myself who still have a Motorola bag phone. You have noticed how the service has been getting worse and worse over the last few months. I have a 6 db gain antenna on my boat. I used to be able to talk no problem from the BR or SB hole. Now I can't make a call from much past the NW places.

    WHY?

Because Alltell is cutting back on the Anaolog signal. Its not your phone or your antenna that has a problem. Its them cutting back on the Analog signal. They have to move over to all digital signal. Not to mention new phones now days have to have a GPS tracker in them.

The bag phone is a great safety feature. Not to mention when you want to give your friends the hot fishing spot w/o everyone hearing over the radio they come in handy.

    Well, Alltel has a solution.

I got something from Alltel in the mail yesterday. For once I was not getting bent over. If you have a bag phone, currently in service......they are going to upgrade you to the New Motorola M800 bag phone for what??????

I don't have the number here at work. I will post it up here when I get home tonight so you can call and find out about it.

    Here is the link to the phone on the Motorola website;

I just pay an additional $20.00 a month to add the phone on to my current plan that me and my wife have.

Unless you have an Analog bag phone in service now on your plan, they are not going to give you the new phone for that price though.

I forgot to mention....there is no fee's or contracts to extend either when you get the new M800.

John, be sure to post up how it works after you get it. Might be nice to have on the boat.

Without corrective lenses, things are never twice the same anyway.
And all it really needed was the proper point of view. JT

Well, I called last night and got mine on the way.

She told me that this offer is for prefered customers only. She said we have been with them since 1996 so we are considered a prefered customer.

She said you have to have one of these letters like they sent me. It will have a Analog code on the paper and they need that number when you call.

    Here is the number 866-806-3233

Give them a call and see if they can hook you up.

The reasoning behind this offer is to get everyone changed over to a E911 capable phone.

I will let you guys know how it works when I get mine.

    Still not sure.......
That kind of "customer reward" is rare in this day and age. Good for them....
I have an older Motorolla bag phone however Altell has told me they do not offer analog service to new customers anymore. Does anyone know of a service provider that offers analog to new customers (I fish out of OC MD)

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
O.C. I'm with Verizon, fish out of Crisfield/Chincoteague. I've had the bag phone from the beginning. I was told several years ago that at some point analog would be no more and as long as I had an open account, the analog phone could still be used but a new account couldn't be open. Won't hurt to give them a call.

I haven't noticed a drop in signal or quality although I've not been offshore for several months now,

    Digital Vs Analog

Tell us how the new phone works, I would be very curious, as it is a digital only.

Analog signals carry farther, that (along with 3 watts) is why the bag phones work at a longer range.

I use my hand held with a digital antenea boster and one of their ant's set up, it works about 90% as good as my old bag phone.

When you are way offshore it picks up the analog signal.

This set up works most of the time off Hatteras.

Capt. Jay, Which repeater are you using? Haven't found one yet that looks like it would work in my application. The good ones require up to 40 feet seperation between the main antenna and the rebroadcast one?
Why Play Nintendo when you can live it???
