I mean 1.5 years ago when I added the bag phone to my existing Alltel plan...it cost me $20.00 extra per month. I have a seperate phone number and phone for the boat that stays on the boat. The boat phone shares my minutes from my plan just like my regulare phone and my wifes phone.

Verizon is on its last year of analog service

Verizon just announced recenty that this will be the last year they provide analog service. We have a 3 watt bag phone with them and it used to work great, 40 miles offshore easily. The last few years, I have noticed I do not get signal in places I used to, due to them removing analog antennas I guess.

Anyway, I wouldn't recommend anyone getting into the analog service for the long term. 3-watt Digital amplifiers are the new thing. $400, but it works with your regular small digital cell phone. Some may even be wireless. It should work very well, considering it is the same 3 watts of power, and there are antennas everywhere along the coast and islands.

I'd like to hear from someone using the digital phones with an amplifier. I have a Motorola Analog phone mounted in my boat that I'm happy with - When I ran out of Southport, I had coverage to Fryingpan Tower or Same Ole hole, and out of Morehead now I get good coverage at Big Rock.

I've been aware of the shutdown of analog service, but have been considering a Sat phone to replace the analog phone.

    Ya know what I miss...

I miss the true CAR PHONES! Where the phone was attached to the phone and you could either pick up the phone and talk or have it hands free.

These little Bitty Phones just dont cut it. Yeah... They are nice to carry around on your hip or in your pocket but, the old car phones (analog) was the Tits.

I've tried those car phone adapters where you slide your flip phone into.. and they Suck.

I still have an old bag phone in the basement. That thing was/is Huge!

Good Luck w/ your Service @ Alltell.

    this is what I use

    amp:
    http://www.digitalantenna.com/prods/...amplifier.html

    antenna:
    http://www.digitalantenna.com/prods/cellantenna_8.html

Some little phones don't work with it, it has to be on their list of adapters, some work better than other making the connection and keeping in clean in the marine environment:

I use a kyocera kx424 and it it better than my old motorola v60

Any little phone will work that has an external antenna attatchment on the back, look for a little rubber dot, under that is the connector.

I really would like to find out how good the new bag phone is, particularly if I can hook it through my booster and get 6 watts, I am pretty sure I can.

I would buy one if it works good, and keep my little phone out of the salt air!

Just figured I would let you guys know that the new m800 is only a 1/2 Watt digital phone just like yor handheld and upon there own admission it will not work as good as a bag phone.I have U.S. Cellular and i guess I am lucky but I got off the phone with them yesterday and they said that they just extended there analog tower service through 2012. I have not had any reception drop in mine and hope not to.
