Most important skill for the Weekend Warrior
In the spirit of good discussions we have had here recently I will pose a question to the board. I was just having this discussion with John Rodgers as we were talking about how we used to fish 10x more than we do now. The question is, and this is for the weekend guys as it is a lil different for the charter boys. WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SKILL to increase the fish you put in your box???? Lets hear some responses and I will chime in with what I think is the number one skill to master.

Dont drink the night before
Seriously - Resist the urge clear the lines and catch the first hooked fish. learn how to fish with a fish on. Its the difference between a 2 fish day and an 8 fish day

Great point Bill. I'll never forget when I first started fishing with experienced crews and when a line went off I kept looking around thinking, um...isn't someone going to get that?!?!? It wasnt until i saw the next rod bow over...then the next...then another that i became a beliver. Sometimes it takes a min or two before you get the subsequential bites so be patient.

JP,
My vote goes to learning how to keep the boat maintained properly. Reason being, it's hard to catch fish if you're worried about your boat. Besides being "broke down" out there can get serious quick! I learned while commercial fishing, that a clear focused head, meant way more fish. Frank

I use a green machine
I think networking with other people who fish more often to get a good idea on where the fish are is a good skill. It has taken me a long time to get good reports from reliable sources.
Or follow the marli out and try to keep up works too!
