Alot of you have probably heard the story, but I had an angler lose his footing and fall over while fighting a blue marlin on 30 pound standup. Got him back (Thank God!!!), but he lost the rod. As I was pulling him through the transom door he kept apologizing about losing the rod.

I told him that I could get another reel, have another rod built, and most likely in this lifetime catch another blue marlin. Getting him back was the important thing.

This was during the WMO 6 or 7 years ago now I guess. The OC MArlin Club gave me a seasonal award for the release and catch of one angler.

Probably the longest minute I ever spent on a boat from when he went over to when he surfaced. Good angler, alot of expereince. Lesson learned, no matter what you are doing when the bite happens, KEEP YOUR SHOES ON!! BTW smallish fish 200 or so, 30 pound international 6 pounds of drag.

Have only had a $125 St. croix rod snapped by a drunk fellow leaning on it and lost a pair of maui jim's... but so far, fairly lucky... of coarse that may be a lot for only fishing for 3 years.

More to come in the future I'm sure

Boat pull $450. Shaft $2700, Prop, matching set of course $5300. The good news what it was close to my birthday. I tell the Mrs, I got the props, and she got the shaft

    Still not sure.......
fortunately my losses have not been expensive (one cell phone) compared to everyone else. However the funniest loss was several years ago when I was drifting for flounder with my wife and 8 yr old son at the bass grounds. Wife was standing at the transom fishing with a brand new Penn spinning reel setup I had bought two days before. My son reaches in the minnow bucket and grabs a couple fat ones and drops them down the back of her shorts. She screams and drops the rod overboard. I watch it sink out of site while she's chaseing him around the cockpit. He's laughing his butt off and throwing gummy bears at her. I started to lmao then she gets mad at me and asks why the heck didn't I jump in after it. We all had a good laugh and ended the day with 6 or 7 nice flatties.

Almost lost my new rolex yachtmaster 3 years ago while gaffing a nice yellowfin at the Lumpy Bottom. Forgot i didn't take it off and while making the gaff popped the clasp and it was dangling from my wrist, handed the fish with the gaff in it to a buddy and quickly got the $7,900 watch my wife just bought me 2 months prior, off so we could bring in the other fish that was peeling line off on the port side.
Whew! She would have killed me. Lost a bent butt rod with a penn 50 out of fighting chair once also....think it was a nice bft struck hard and fast ...$950.00

    that's it!
