What do you think? Do they have a direct effect on each other? Is fishing better or worse on a new moon?
If the moon phase has a direct impact on fishing when is the best time to go? Day before, days after etc..

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES. NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.....
I am far from an expert and have heard many different views, but for me I do not like fishing a full or a new moon, as a tuna chunker that is. the current seems to be too great during those moon phases and I always seem to have wind against tide. sometimes we have to put 16+oz of lead just to keep the lines from screaming up towards the anchor line. Granted I have caught fish on both moons and wish I kept better records on how many and if deeper worked better during a full and shallower during a new but that is just going by memory not written stats. Basically I am just saying I will fish in the middle of a cycle just out of convenience of tending to baits all night. Not to sound lazy but if I dont have to work around a major obstacle for half the night I tend to fish harder and catch more.
As for trolling i will not even try to expand on that and let someone who does that a lot more than I to help.
Have a look at this site just might answer a few questions. in fresh water yes makes a big difference.

You will have your strongest tides on or around the new and full moon...This is called the spring tide.
Some species feed heavily on the strong tides...like the Wahoo....the stronger the tide, the better...I've had my best wahoo #'s come off the new and/or full moon.
Some fish are affected and some aren't...Just depends on the type of targeted species per location.
