MONSTER SHARK - Oak Bluffs, MA 2007

Well I indeed made it there after hours and hours of debating whether to fly or drive. I decided to make the drive and fish just Saturday. I am very happy that I did it was a great time, with new & old friends.

I was told Friday was very nasty out and I was kind of glad that I missed it but if I could of been there I would of been there and out with the rest of them!

Saturday morning started off by catching some livies. It is funny how things work, Why is it when you want to catch blue fish you don't catch'em and when you don't want them they cover you up??? We picked up enough and headed out.

On the Contender 36 Fisharound we had CHUCK SPEAKING , Joe, his girlfriend Magic Breast (Don't ask I really do not know), myself and Kim.

Got our gear in the water, chum slick brewing, with no other boats in it 1 mack skirted in pink, 1 naked mack, 1 regular blue, 1 blue butterflied and then starts the WAIT, and waiting and watching. We had a slow drift, good temps, nice slick the whole nine yards.

After trying the I will eat tatic and that didn't work. I decided to grab a pillow out of the cabin and lay and watch from on top of the console, perfect view of all the baits and beyond. After a while it was time for a new tatic, Nappy time lets roll over and put my back to the baits, and see what happens.

I hear MAKO MAKO

Finally the moment came, where she bit, and aired out just 5' from the boat. GAME ON!

Up and off the console I went with a smile ear to ear, Joe seemed a little bit more excited then me to nab the rod and set so I let him have at it. But he didn't have his belt set up and that was a concern of his and I decided to worry about the belt later and get the fish! Sorry Joe 5 second rule applied! Video camera rolling

Being that I picked up a new playaction belt at Off the Hook Bait and Tackle a couple weeks ago and that was there they snapped that puppy around me and it was GO TIME!

He took a long deep haul when the hook was set and decided he was going to trek around the back of the boat to the strb side, I had no choice but to follow. Once over on the other side I was able to gain some back, he headed up forward and Mary Beth was watching from the bow and looking over the side and Mr. Mako decided he was going to air out again just below her face. That was the last time I seen Mary Beth she went straight in to the cabin after that until it was over.

He came back around and back under the boat Joe screaming from the other side ONE JUST AIRED OUT nope it was just mine When he decided to do the long haul back under and out the other side of the boat of course my hand is on the rod where it should be and the %$#$#%@ pinned my hand to the gunnel....aaahhhh that felt just wonderful!!!
My finger now was purplish looking with a nice dent.

Mr. Mako calmed a bit once he did his flips. We now had the motors up and out of the water, me knowing that I couldn't safely bring the line around back of the boat, it was an all out fight and I was destin to win and stayed where I was, and gained inch by inch on him. I was happy with my progress and wanted to stay. Chuck wanted the to bring him back around to the other side and the bow was the only option. I had him steady and somewhat calm. OK here goes nothing started the move forward and he wanted nothing to do with that once I was half way up so it was REEL & RUN and get out of my way.

Once on the bow I got him somewhat topside, he decided to make once last deep on me and smashing the very same finger as before but this time it special and now my knuckle it split open. In all the commotion of trying to get spun he tail wrapped himself and it was a release. Chuck estimated him at just at 200ish.

That was it for the day and on to the festivities!

Admin will be editing my video, as for there was at least 2 occasions where ^$#^@%@$ came flying out of my mouth for the finger smashing and under the boat stuff!

Here are some pictures of the Contender Crews

Nicely done! It doesn't look like that squashed finger slowed you down at all!

Mary, sounds like you had another great time "not drinking"

Great report and can't wait to see the video.

BTW, did you get to spend more than just a few days up there? I knew you wanted to try and make a little vacation out of this.

Very nice pictures

Looks like everyone is having a great time. To be young again and as my wife and I can barely make the 10:00 pm news on most nights. Go fast and party hard because it does not last forever.
