First off congrads on catching the biggin. Second I got a question or few haha. I live down here in the Carolina's and I got to do some tuna fishing this past winter. It was the first time doing it and I was trying to learn a little. We had the penn 130's internationals and we had min of 400 lbs test on the reels. I notice that you had a spinner reel. What # test did you guys have on that spinner. Sorry if I missed it while reading your story. I would think you would have ran out and the reason why I think that is 1 when we got ours on that baby ran for 2 mins straight (might have been longer not really sure). And 2 I didnt think you can put as much line on a spinner.

I have heard some people say that tuna fishing around here is way different than fishing up in the New England area.

Can someone explain how that is please? I'm always into learning some new info especially fishing like this.. And like I said im New at all this sport fishing. I'm usually just doing bottom fishing on a head boat. I want to learn how to troll and all that so bad.

    Thanks again guys

This style of fishing is very very different than trolling on a big boat using big gear. Its almost like hunting. Looking for the right circumstances, seeing them then attacking them.

I wasnt on the boat and Dom is relaxing in Mexico for the winter but I fish with Dom a lot and I know all who were involved so I can answer you. They were using a Shimano Stella 18000HG with PE6 braid which should test out between 80-96 pounds breaking strength. Adrian probably had about 400 yards of line on that reel. The reel is capable of 55 pounds of drag pressure at empty spool and about 25 at full spool.

Dom is amazing at sight casting to these fish, he has a knack of finding them and landing them. He has landed several of these fish over 250 pounds over the last two years.

As far as capacity is concerned you are fishing in center consoles up in NE area and in shallow water so whenever the fish takes off you can basically chase after it if needed.

DOM -- hell of a catch. I'll be back up with Chip to do battle again next year. Adrian, I've got some serious video footage of the one we caught in October with Chip. that 150lber is mini sized compared to this behemoth though.

PM me with your email for the vids adrian
