MONSTER CABO YELLOWFIN
Just got these picts of a 380# Cabo yellowfin caught this past weekend from my friend Minerva or Minerva's Tackle. About six hours fight time. Caught aboard Minerva III con Capitan David (Felicitaciones, Capitan!). The party also C&R'd four or five marlin. Details to follow.
First pict is another big tuna that came while one of Minnies' boats was wahoo fishing. The second two are of the 380 pounder. Minnie is an IGFA rep and the fish was weighed on the IGFA scale.
Woof!

Grand tuna fish. Just a couple of meals short of a world record! Thanks for posting captain Fred.

It's quite a story. The charter party consisted of four gentlemen from Korea who had never been to Cabo before and none of whom had even been fishing before! The charter master was Stanley Song, a chiropracter who lives in Cabo.
The tackle was quite a story too. It was an Alutechnos 30 spooled up with 60# Momoi on a Calstar marlin caster rod. The leader was only 100#. I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure a circle hook was used. The bait was a live Pacific mackerel. The anglers shared fighting the fish and put about six hours into it. Obviously Capitan David Urea and mate Esteban Alvarez did a great job of rigging the tackle - something that you can expect with Minnie's crews. The fish stayed up on the bank, which is quite shallow, so he couldn't get too deep on them.
A couple more pounds and that fish would have been a sad, instead of a happy story. Had it been a record fish it would have had to have been disqualified because of many things that happened, including more than one angler.
Yes, the Baja can be an incredible fishery, with Cabo, La Paz, the incredibly unbelievable Magdelena Bay and Puerto Vallarta all having fantastic, affordable fishing and other very special things about each, including fish that you never hear about, like these...
(Be on the lookout for "The Baja Book", with chapters by such notables as Josh Temple, Minerva, David and Chris Jones, and others, including Yours Truly, a non-notable. In progress and coming soon.)
